I have a mag7 that was used for a steady two years, and the last two years it gets used only during water changes, still running strong, never changed impellers yet, same with a mag5 I have....I would say long lasting pumps, but just like anything else I am sure there are lemons in the bunch...

They can practically last forever. All of the moving parts are replaceable. Sometimes you might crack the impeller housing if you overtighten it, but that's replaceable too.

I have had some in continuous use for 10+ years. It just takes a little cleaning and replace an impeller once in a while.

The biggest trouble I've ever had has been breaking the impeller housing (as mentioned). That piece could be beefier.

I've had my mag 5 for 4 years. I'm afraid to clean it! I do have a back up one in case it stops working tho.
