Question PVC Pipe Glue (toxic?)

Hey everyone! I went to the hardware store and picked up some 1/2 pvc pipe and some fittings for my return line on my 25gal. Before I started putting it together I was wondering about the glue desiigned for this stuff. Is it Toxic? Should I just use a little aquarium sealant instead of the pvc glue? What do you guys use?

If it is safe enough for us to drink out of "potable" then it should be fine for your tank.

I used it on mine, and so does most everyone else I know.

No problems.

No one has ever stated they had a problem with it. I just redid all my PVC plumbing and used PVC cement. I let it dry about 1/2 hour before turning on the pumps. IMO I would not recommend running water through it as soon as you glue it. Although it dries in just a few minutes, I'd wait just a little longer.

Pvc cement is perfectly safe for your tank. As long as the cement was not in the purple can(green, red, orange, and yellow are fine). The purple can is mad for conduit piping for electric and can contain some tars along with the regular mixture. I would recommend you actualy wait atleast 2 hours before firing it up but other than that its fine.

I don't know where lykens is. I actually live in Nanticoke, it borders Wilkes-Barre. Most know Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area so it was a safer bet that way they know the general area of the state.

The primer in the purple can is OK isn't it?

Thanks!

Thanks for everyones input. I thought that it probably wouldn't hurt anything but you can never be to sure. Especially when you put all that money into a set up. Thanks Agian!

yes the primer is fine and I messed up slightly its the orange can thats prolly not all that great but most likely unless you are buying glue in the electrical section you don't need to worry. Sry didn't meen to mess up with the colors I thought orange was primer and purple was glue.
