Yep, she's super engaged now. Look at the size of that rock! Do you realize how much reef stuff I could buy with that thing?

Thanks =) Yea, they can sleep between 16 and 20 hours a day. Mine usually sleeps for a few hours then gets up to snack and goes to bed. When I take her out she usually lasts anywhere from 1 hour to 3 before she passes out.

Sunday Update!

Sorry I haven't posted anything in awhile.. nothing really new has been going on with the tank. Ocean is getting big and so is Oreo (zebar eel). He is over 22" now and filling out. I'm going to have to start thinking about the tank upgrade sooner then later unfortunately.

I do have some good news though. My chaeto has been growing like a weed and is filling up my sump. It's taken the nitrates down a ton and has made a huge difference. The pods that I poured into it have also begun breeding and hatching and you can see hundreds in there now all around and inside the chaeto. I also have a lot of those baby brittle stars crawling around inside the chaeto. You can see a couple in this photo.

I also got my mandarin to eat pellets now. This made me really happy bc he was getting very skinny, but now he's filling out again. I don't understand it bc I can see a ton of pods inside my tank at night. Not sure why he's not eating them.

As for the upgrade, I really wanted to wait until we moved.. but I'm not sure I can wait that long. I'll have to see how much more Ocean grows in the next couple of months.. but he's really starting to outgrow the tank quickly now.

I don't think the 240 is going to happen. I can't decide between a 120 or a 125. I really like the 120 tanks a lot, but the 125 I think would be better for Ocean. But the more I think about it, the 125 is only 18" wide, and may not be very good for him. He seems to prefer to swim inside and out of things, rather then back and forth... so maybe the 24" in a 120 would be better? I really don't know anymore.

The other advantage of the 125 is, if we upgrade to the 240, I could use the 125 as a sump. If we get the 120, it would be wasted unless we keep the 120 as the eel tank, which I have also thought about doing.. but not sure I want a 120 and a 240 going... so yea that's what I'm thinking right now.

I will post some updated photos soon.

Congratulations

I have a question about your lighting. I really like to color you get. Are you just using the phoenix by themselves or do you have actinic too? And what kind of ballast do you use?

Keep up the good work.

Thanks =)

I'm only running the Phoenix 14ks. I love the blue it puts off. I don't have any actinic, that's why I went with the phoenix. I'm using the Reef Optix III fixtures with ice cap ballasts.

I am soo jealous of you Chaeto growth. ...that might be the nerdiest comment I've ever made in my life.

Have tried everything to get mine to grow, without success.

I'd go with the 240. Think of all the room your fish will have to swim!

Hey NanoGurl,

May I enquire as to what type of lights you use over your fuge?
I've been following your thread since day one, but I do not recall fuge lighting being mentioned -- maybe it was?

I want to get my new tank set up right from the start -- the last fuge light I used failed to grow anything.

Best Regards,
Conor.

Yup. I use these.

I'm sure they don't grow it as fast as some lights do, but I'm not really interested in having to remove half of it every week due to growth. This has worked well for me.

I use similar lights for my fuge as well NG, they seem to work just fine for me too and they are priced just right.
