Oceanic Biocube Skimmer opinions, please

I'm considering the Oceanic Skimmer for my BC29. Are they any good, or are they an example of "you get what you pay for"?

Thanks!
Jenn

Hey AZReefDiva,

I just purchased one about 3 weeks ago and I have no complaints at all. But, I must admit I have nothing else to compare to. I've been reading some posts from people on here and the went with the sr3 skimmer, or something like that. I know there's a huge price difference.

The BC skimmer is designed to fit into the first chamber, but it replaces your filter pad. The sr23 (sp), goes into the second chamber...replaces the bio balls!

It took about a week for mine to start producing any skimmate.

Ok, thanks! I'll be putting a UV sanitizer in the 2nd chamber (it's my last hope at getting rid of my dinoflagellate problem before I tear down the whole tank and start all over!), so it would be extremely helpful to be able to put the skimmer in the 1st chamber.

If you are referring to the 39.00 skimmer, I've had mine for about 1 1/2 weeks. Haven't seen anything except a little yellowish colored water.

I use the CPR bak pac with my Bio 29. I have looked at the SR3 and I am thinking of switching just to clean up the look some. The Bak Pac works great but if I can clean up the look and keep the skimmer noise down just a bit it would be worth the cost.

The CPR SR3 is my next purchase for the Bio29.
