anemone killing clown?

Hi,
I bought two pink tipped anemones the other day and was about to buy a nice maroon clown when the pet store guy told me that he thinks I bought a type that kills clowns. I don't know what kind it is because the place I bought didn't mark it and I didn't ask.
I thought all clowns had a protective layer that made it possible for them to enter into anemones. Is it possible that the anemone I bought is dangerous even to clownfish?

Thanks
Jay

If im not mistaken not all anemones are considered to be "Host Anemones" Sounds to me like you maybe have a Condylactis which I believe is not. You mention pink tips. Condylactis has long white colored tentacles with pink tips usually with a pink to reddish base.

atlantic anemones are not natural hosts to clowns. clowns live in the pacific. By adding an atlantic anemone and a pacific clown, there is no natural bond between the 2 and they dont host each other. there have been a few exceptions where a clown has hosted in a condylactis, so keep your fingers crossed if you get the clown. if not, go with a nice bta

Actually clownfish are found in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.

Clownfish can develop an immunity to most anemones. With CB clownfish, they have never seen an anemone and may never host in one. It is possible that a clown without immunity to a species of anemone could get stung badly enough to get ate, but it is rare.

Maroons are good at hosting many anemones. But keep in mind that clownfish in the home tank do not need an anemone to live long, healthy and happy lives. And that anemones are hard to keep, and if they die in a small volume of water you can get some really bad ammonia/nitrite spikes before you can deal with it and wipe out your tank.

It is also possible for a clown to gain immunity and then lose it again. Unfortunately, that is what ultimately happened to the one you see pictured. I had to move it out of the tank for a while due to fighting, after several months of being in the Q tank, I put it back in the main tank. The clown went straight for its "home", was stung, killed and eaten before I could do anything.
