Fluorecent lights
I need to buy some new lights for my aquarium and I was wondering if anyone could suggest something. I need four fluorecent tubes for a 33 gallon that has a xenia coral, two pink tipped anemones and some macro Algae. I know what the local pet stores want to sell me but I was wondering if anyone, who isn't trying to get my money, could actually suggest something helpful.
Thanks Jay |

33 gallons is a small footprint. I went through this a few years ago. In my experience the only alternative you really have is to buy some power compacts. You can try the small flourescents that the pet stores sell but I doubt you will be able to get enought light to keep anything other than fish. I know this is not the answer you want but....

I'm no expert on lighting or anemones, but aren't you going to need more than fluorescent lighting to keep your anemones healthy?
If you were just keeping macro and xenia you could probably get by with regular flourescent lighting. It's pretty easy and cheap to stick some fluorescent fixtures in a homemade canopy. You'd need a couple of full spectrum bulbs with 90 or greater CRI, and over 5,000k temperature (GE makes a "sunshine" bulb that is adequate and cheap-- available at Walmart here). Then add a couple of actinics and you'd be set. FWIW, Mariner
