other choices are pygmy angel fish of the genus Centropyge and Genicanthus angels. Genicanthus angels can be slightly larger and are much more reef safe than centropyge angels, which are a gamble, but the centropyge pygmy angels are much better looking IMO. I haven't researched much about the genicanthus angels, but i do know some about the centropyge angels. the main species are centropyge loriculus (the flame angel, very good looking, but will most likely nip at sps polyps and clam mantles, but shouldn't hurt much else.), Potter's angelfish (pretty cool fish, will probably nip, i personally prefer other members of the genus), centropyge bicolor? (the bicolor angelfish, pretty cool, but not really reef safe.) centropyge flavissimus (the lemonpeel angelfish is a beautiful fish, one of my favorites, but your reef wont stand a chance.) my personal favorite, the one i decided to go with, centropyge argi, the cherub angelfish, is very small (3-4 inches), the least likely to nip, and very active.) i wouldnt reccomend anthias if you have a problem with feeding a lot. damselfish can be too territorial. small gobies like shrimp gobies (Stonogobiops and others) clown gobies (gobiodon spp.) , dartfish like firefish and blue gudgeons, and others are very interesting to watch. blennies are cool, too, one of my favorites being the midas blenny. HTH you in picking out the rest of your fish.

Thanks! I'm reading The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner and it gives more info on fish species than the last book I read: The New Marine Aquarist.
I was thinking about a Paracanthurus hepatus (hippo tang) or Zebrasoma flavescens (yellow tang). I was also interested in Powder Blue Tang, Copperband Butterflyfish, Raccoon Butterflyfish...but I read that those were much harder to keep and some were not reef-safe. I'm looking to get the easiest (and cheapest) to have. I think I'm also going to have smaller fish like the Royal Gramma and others (gotta look up more fish). I'm going to have a reef tank, not right away but I have all the equipment for a reef tank so once my water quality is up there, I will. I'm going to look up all the fish you told me about. |

raccoon butterfly, along with almost every other butterfly isnt reef safe. paracanthurus hepatus will do pretty well in a 6 foot tank, but since it gets over 1 foot long, dont try to cram it in a 90. zebrasoma flavescens is a great choice, just keep in mind they can become sliiiightly aggressive, but wont hurt anything. i love powder blue tangs, but they are very succeptible to disease and being in a smaller tank (less swimming room) will just magnify that risk. royal grammas (gramma loreto) are very cool fish. good choice, i forgot to mention those and dottybacks. i love bicolor and strawberry/magenta dottybacks, but they can be a little aggressive. HTH.

josh, are you really taking those classes? when im a sophomore (2006), a school is probably going to open near me which will initially be taking freshman and sophomores. it will be an environmental studies school with an emphasis on marine sciences. they will have solar panels powering aquaculture systems at the school. that will be amazing. also, everybody will get a chance to get certified when they're juniors.
i have changed my fish list now, and i think i will be getting 6 anthias. i just feel that i really want a group of fish, and since i have so many fish but they are so small, i can probably sustain a few more. i am also looking into putting a seahorse in the main reef !

They don't but you have to take a couple non-major related classes...Thank you God, with all those AP credits that's not a case for me - Gen. Ed. classes are a waste...
