Yep, this is where I spend most of my time. We have lots of great people posting here and we get to share our ideas, ID's, and generally try and help each other with whatever problems or questions we might have.
What's really nice is a bunch of people just got their TBS this week, so we'll have lots of TBS talk now, rather than plumbing problems.

Danielle, your tank really looks great! I'm still amazed at that red algae you have. It really "fits" in with the look of the tank!

Anyone have a clue? It's living in a hole in the rock, and the plant-root looking things are its tentacles. It holds them in the current then obviously captures stuff and one by one brings the tentacles in to its mouth (?), then back out.

Easily the strangest thing I've seen in my tank - and new to me three months after I started.

Anyone got a clue what it is?

I took a video of it "eating" but I'm not sure if there's a good/easy way to post a small video...

It was a VERY long dry spell due to the weather, but summertime is here! Was able to catch up some, and anybody we have missed please email/call us....

BUT....we are starting to see some weather from the hurricane coming across central America, lets hope it goes south of us this time!

the rock with the feather dusters......they are on the bottom of that rock, which is where they like to grow......just so you orient it correctly....

Brian, many people have said they have their special lair, but they've also said that when they try to get them out, they moved to a different rock, so it really depends on your particular mantis.

Is it possible to remove these guys and place them elsewhere? Or do I really need to figure out a compromised placement?
Me too! I have found 5 or 6. I thought the whole rock was moving! Here's one:

Good I wasn't sure about how to place those either. I guess they will come out soon then?

It looks like sponge (looks like sea squirt) encrusted in coraline. Is it hard?

Well, I tried not to touch it...It looks hard, thin, and more like an algae than a sponge. Could it be a coral?

Nirol- I have some that looks like that. It is a coral- a darker red than the bright red sponge, and has little bumps all over. Does that sound right? I don't know what kind of coral it is, but when I picked up my rock I was told that it had been a complete cup and then was broken when being hoisted out of the gulf.

Yeah. Exactly. It looks bumpy and brittle as if part was broken. It seems to have built up what it is on.

Ok you're the expert. Thanks! I put it in the center of tank and face up to get more light, is that a right thing to do?

I will tell you that is the only problem with the rock is there is so much on it that I don't know how or where to place it because I want to see everything. I don't see how part 2 can be better.

I will move the rock around some more. The more of it I can see once the cloud settled down I can figure out where I want to move it to.
