I decided to keep my barracuda afterall.
I contacted Chris @ Reeflow and sent him pictures of my plumbing. He said there is no issue anywhere and the pump should be near silent. I have a brand new replacement pump on the way.

I wonder if there would be any difference between the 150w fixture or the 250w fixture as far as the color with the stock bulbs. I was planning on getting the 250w version, and have seen the 6' version over a 180, and I love the color. I need to ask him if those are the stock bulbs(probably not) and if not what the are.

Not a day goes by I don't wish I got the 2x250w MH.
That is the only mistake I have done so far.

Well my powder blue got ich (not a surprise) and it has cleared up a few times but comes back worse every time. I decided to tear the tank apart to get him out into quarantine and treat him with hypo salinity. I have two true percs that are in perfect condition but they will be in there with him.
It will be over 6weeks that they will be in QT so that will allow ich to die off in my display tank so I will be ich free!!! Everything I buy from now on goes into QT. It's just not worth the risk. This is a 30G long (36x12x16) with aquaclear hob filter, two maxijet 1200's and coralife lunar aqualight 96w X2 50/50.

Xenon I have joined this thread kinda late so i got a question. What did you use to drill your tank or did you take it to a glass shop to get the holes drilled out? I want to drill my tank but i am not sure how its done and I rather pay to get it done at shop instead of breaking it myself.

I would add put some live rock with lots of coralline on it, then start any two part solution dosed daily, so that 6 months later your current green rocks should be turning purple. Your tank is beautiful and i love your setup but the cooked rock killed any coralline spores growing on it. More pic thanks, |

Hey xenon, you have the same skimmer I have. Mine has the adjustment pipe all the way open along with the air intake all the way open but the foam pours over the collection cup so fast. Did yours do that?

Yes... especially for the first 2weeks that I had it. Break-in period was a pain in the a$$.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and do the gatevalve mod. I can dial in my skimmer so well now. I also dont get my hands wet everytime I need to adjust it!

Can you give me a link or explain how to do a gate valve mod? Thanks.

This picture should help you understand.
Remove the riser pipe and replace it with a 1.5" gate valve. Then put a 1.5" T and cap the top (make sure to drill a 3/8" hole in the cap). You will also need a 1.5" 90 degree elbow and roughly 10" pipe. That's it! You adjust the amount of water inside the skimmer with the gate valve. The more open the valve is, the less water in the skimmer. As you close the valve the water level rises in the skimmer. Gatevalves are nothing like ball valves. It would take me 30sec to fully close a gate valve because its so incremental. That's the beauty of gatevalves.

That's the same as the pipe it came with, just easier. All you do is turn the pipe it came with to adjust water level. Right now it is all the way open along with the air intake and it still pours way overboard.

Leaving it all the way open should be the same though on either one. More air comming in the less water in the skimmer. I know what you were getting at with the mod now with better adjustments, but I don't want to close it any more. I have excessive foaming way over the collection cup. I asked another forum and they asked if I used any reef epoxy, I used almost a full stick of it for glueing base rocks together, so maybe it's giving off stuff in the water making the skimmer do that, except that was a week ago.
Thanks for the info though, I will have to look into getting those pieces to mod it, seems cooler anyway |

The reef epoxy made my skimmer go nuts too. I will never use it again. It's Super Glue Gel only for me. The epoxy says not to run your skimmer for 36 or 48 hours i forget which. but even after that amount of time my skimmer still went nuts. I had to adjust it so the bubbles barely made it into the cup and it still had to be babysat for about 3 hours so I could empty the cup when it filled up. It finally settled down and is okay now.
