mushroom spawning

Has anyone had mushrooms physically spawn before? By this, I mean not melting or splitting; I mean shooting up eggs or sperm? I ask because I have had some that have died shortly after being bought and they appeared to expunge all zooanthae in a waxy form and then disintegrate. This morning I noticed that my side refugium, which is stocked with 3 colonies that have been multiplying so much that they frequently attach to the one turbo snail in there, and they all looked as if they were spawning. After adding an air pump to block them from the rest of the tank, the smell was awful, which worried me that they were dieing? Possibly something might have caused this, I know, but I was wondering if anyone knew if spawning events smelled too? I will post pics to my account soon!

That's not mushrooms spawning. Those are melted mushrooms and they will stink like hell when that happens. It's a gut wrenching odor and you will really smell it when you vacuum them out.
Suck all that gross white filmy stuff out, and clean out the fuge.

I had that happen to a loose button I was trying to grow. The smell from just that one was bad, I can't imagine what yours is gonna be like.
