a 120 would be fine as long as you get him kinda small when he grows later you can always upgrade if you want to

You can't get them "small"...Not really. 5-7".

Seriously. Remember that most of the fish we keep live in coral reefs, whereas crosshatch triggers are OPEN WATER fish, as in they have MUCH more than four feet by two feet by two feet of space! They can clear that in about three seconds. Then where? Size isn't everything. 5-7" IS big, and triggers grow quickly. How expensive is a 120? And you're going to upgrade from that? I doubt it.

if you look at it that sense why take any fish from the ocean even a damsel

Did you read what I just said? Fish that live in reefs are used to having limited space in the sense that there are things--coral structures, gorgonians, sponges, etc.--all around them, so they're already used to confinement, in a way. Crosshatch triggers live in the wide-open sea. There's an enormous difference. Do you see?

i don't think i would say that being in the reef is limited space or confinement considering the great barrier reef is over 180 miles long or around i don't think that is confinement do you

also how deep do you think it is over ther 2ft

You're not seeing what I'm saying. Imagine yourself diving in the two areas: a reef among the corals, and the open ocean. DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?
Most fish do not have a range of 180 miles. You're purposely being difficult. Try playing the devil's advocate; it'll benefit you as well as the creatures you keep. |

We're looking on the scale of a fish and his territory, not a photograph from a satellite.

Alright.
Listen. Read what I wrote. Let it sink into your brain. If you let go of your...whatever reasons that keep you from gaining new knowledge....then you might be able to comprehend what I'm saying. Last edited by Caesar777; 07/02/2005 at 10:19 AM. |

taking any fish out of there natural enviroment and sticking them in any tank is not right but yet we do it and then i hear people say that an 8 ft tank is big enough but yet it is no where near the size the enviroment we had took them from.

Petty bickering or name calling is not allowed on this site; Caesar777 this will be your only warning.
paulpp187 taunting is just as bad and this is a final warning for you also. This is a family board that anyone from 13yrs of age and up may participate, however we hope to keep the comments mature and positive. As to the comment, "taking any fish out of there natural environment and sticking them in any tank is not right" is completely false. Too many fish offered in the hobby are larger fish that should be left in the sea, however many smaller species such as Dwarf Angels, Gobies, Blennies, Pseudochromis, Clownfish, etc... can be kept within their home territory limits by the size aquariums we keep. The rate of successful breeding through aquacultured sites is greater than in the ocean for many of these species. Let's get back on track to a positive thread, Ed

"Too many fish offered in the hobby are larger fish that should be left in the sea..."
That was my only point... It could be kept in a VERY LARGE tank, not in a measly (compared to its natural range) 120. Last edited by EdKruzel; 07/02/2005 at 02:06 PM. |

Heh.. Thanks for helping me out. When somebody says "that's my only point..." they shouldn't go blabbing on about other things.
MY BAD! I'll learn to chill out someday. |
