ATO: SpectraPure vs. Tunze

Which ATO is better: SpectraPure with Peristaltic Pump or Tunze?

The SpectraPure is slightly more $ but don't base your opinion on this.

I say Tunze. Because I like the way the infared sensor keeps the water level rock solid for my skimmer. Also the pump is only $20 to replace. Pump is not silent and can be louder when the water in the resovoir is low. You may hear a hum when it comes on.

Just for topping off? Have you considered double switch controller and a simple FT-70 pump from autotopoff.com and save a few dollars?

I agree with Greg. I've been running my Tunze for over two years without a hitch.

the tunze is not the best for pumping kalk if that is your plan. kalk is not good for the submersible pump.

I've been very happy with my Tunze as well.

Keeps the level dead on, reliable enough that I worry about other equipment when on vacation.

It does make quiet hum when on, like Greg said. Actually, I find it a reassuring sound, lets me know that it's doing it's job.

Provided a couple minutes to clean the sensor a couple times a year, I've had zero issues in the last 4 years with mine.

However, if you use the optional Calcium Dispensor, the pump never comes in contact with the Kalk saturated water.

I love my Tunze and I run a DIY kalk reactor between pump and tank. It keeps my water level perfect. Like said above the only thing is cleaning off the sensor two or three times a year.
