What is the best Gobi/Pistol Shrimp combo?
I'm looking for a gobi pistol shrimp pair.
1. no jumpers 2. smaller size 3. very peaceful suggestions? Thanks Ralph

I have 2 pairs of Yellow watchman goby and tiger pistol shrimp in different tanks and they are inseparatable.

|
I have a Yellow Watchman Goby and was considering a Pistol. How difficult is it to get them to pair up?
Would it pose any danger to my existing cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp? What about to smaller inverts like astrea snails, nassarius snails, and hermit crabs?

I put a yashia goby and tiger pistol in my tank that had never seen each other before. They found each other and paired up overnight. The tiger pistols are very small (like 1" or so) and very shy so you're not likely to have any problems.

If you want to be diff from every one else and money is not a problem try this, Flaming Prawn Goby pair with Japanese Bullseye Pistol Shrimp. But you need them in pico type of tank if not you will never see them again. I never see anyone pair them up yet, the total should be around $150.

Bullseye pistols don't pair successfully with gobys. Not all pistols are reef safe.
You can't go wrong with tiger or candy stripe pistol shrimp.

Not sure of my pistol species, but my goby is an orange stripe watchman goby, very cool, love the fake eye spot on his fin

I have a tiger pistol, silvery orange spotted goby, and another tiger pistol I thought died in a tank crash till the bigger guy dug some holes where I could see him along the front of the tank.

I've been unsuccessful "re-pairing" my YWG. He paired up quickly with a tiger pistol when I first bought him. They were best mates for over a year. Then tiger pistol died and its been 2 years and 3 pistols later and he won't pair up, not with tiger or candy stripe pistols.

No problem getting them to pair: I dumped in a tiger and another variety more specific to the highfins, and they sorted it out on the fly: ie, they no sooner hit the sand than they were 'signalling' the appropriate fish, who came running.
The tiger/yellow watchman pair is a great success: the tiger is on his way to being a small lobster and is very healthy. The other guy took out through the vents of the downflow and landed in my overgrown sump, and I can't find him...them, since two of the same breed did it. I entertain hope they'll breed down there and maybe I'll find one sooner or later.  But the tiger and watchman are front and center every day, the tiger constantly building a new tunnel or repairing an old one.

I think I'll get the yasha goby & tiger pistol shrimp. Anyone know where I can get a pair (healthy)?

Your best bet is to search around various local stores. Yasha's can be hard to find (but I have seen a lot of them lately) and the pistols have a reputation for being bad shippers so I'd try to get one that's already been through it.

What about getting a YWG with a tiger pistol shrimp, along with a blue throat trigger? I'd love to have this interaction in my tank, but I have a bluethroat trigger. He is very quiet and shy, only comes out usually to eat, doesn't pick on my chromis, cherubs, clown or jawfish.

i have a happy YWG in my reef tank and a few weeks ago i decided to get a pistol shrimp for him. the LFS has some clearish pistols that the guy admitted he didnt know exactly what species it was. so i bring it home and when i put him in the tank he darted for the closest rock which became his home and i would doubt if hes ever left its saftey. un fortunatley this rock is not the one my goby lives under and im afraid they will never meet.

Sounds like your YWG is perfectly happy and comfortable living alone. Get another small highfin-type goby. Since it will be new to the tank it might immediately seek refuge and safety with the pistol.
