Skimmer?
Would an ASM g2 skimmer be a good choice for a 60 gal. tank at 150$? Thanks.

I'd buy a brand new Octopus NW150. It's rated for 150 gallons and is only around $120

Octopus is a much better way to go. Better build quality and cheaper.

A big step up would be to get a recirculating model if you can find the money in the budget.

Thanks all. What do you mean by a recirculating model?

A recirculating skimmer has a second pump that pulls water from the reaction chamber and simply recirculates it through the skimmer body. It increases the time that the air is in contact with the water and makes for a more efficient skimmer. It also requires a feed pump and most people use something like a Maxi Jet. You can modify most skimmers to recirculate, and it is very common, but for the amount that Octopus charges for their skimmers it's not worth it IMO. I saw a used Ocotpus Recirculating 150 on the classifieds yesterday for $200. Mesh-mod it, put a gate valve on it and you'll have a skimmer that will compete with any skimmer on the market.

RC models are great, but usually way expensive. If you can find a deal, jump on it. Otherwise, go with something cheaper like the Octopus or Euroreed RS models. Beware of used stuff, I would only buy a new skimmer.

The Octopus Recirc. 150 is only $269.99 new but may be overkill for your tank. You may look at the Recirc. 110 which is $249.99 and rated for a 120g tank.
