Silly pet peeves - feeling petty today :)

Come on guys, I know we all have them...

1) It drives me crazy when people call angels 'angles'. I know it's a simple typo, but it makes me think of a bunch of protractors swimming around.

2) Incomplete words - I know when you're texting on a phone it's easier to type 'ur' than 'your', 'you're' or 'you are', but it's annoying to read a post full of these abbreviations. I think I'm getting old.

3) This one really rubs me the wrong way for some reason: people who list their system volume as their tank size. If you have a 75g tank and a 25g sump, you do not have a 100g tank!

Now, I know I'm not the only one feeling petty today (at least I hope not), what are your forum pet peeves?

No forum pet peeves, but LFS pet peeves is when I call looking for a specific fish, they say they have it, go there and presto it is not there. It does not count that you DID have it, when I call I expect you to make sure you have it, thus the reason I call ahead! If you don't have the time just say, "we normally stock those, but today it is really busy and can not go and check all the tanks" (although I don't think every fish store is doing well enough to ignore customer requests). Plus don't tell me all 3 of the items I was looking for much have been sold in the hour between the call and arrival.

Just really don't like to be lured under false pretenses to check out inventory... it just will make it where I don't shop there ever again.

Woooo saaaaaaa

1) i hate 'nemos' and 'dories'

2) i agree with you about the abbreviating. "omg, idk my bff Jill?"

3) when people call my hammer coral, my xenia, and even my poccilipora an anemone.

4) people that troll threads on RC

5) my dad always calling my monitpora a 'plate' coral. i don't know why, but it just bothers me.

6) whenever someone asks what size of tank a regal tang needs.

7) when LFS employees at this LFS act like they know about s/w fish and corals when they are the f/w department

8) goldfish. i hate them. everything about them. don't know why, but i do.(i'm also afraid of koi)

9) people spelling caulerpa...... calurpe!

1. Grammar and spelling. If I see a terribly, painfully written post and look to their info only to see they're in an area where English is spoken by everyone, it bothers me to no end. This includes laziness such as not capitalizing the first letter in a sentence. What bothers me more than that is when people capitalize every word they think is important, making the post look similar to a book title. No. You're doing it wrong.

2. I know this one is pretty bad, and not totally their fault. But at the same time I just can't help it because when I see someone with over 1000 posts along with a BB sps tank with some more touchy fish like a PBT or something, ask a basic info question, it's kind of like, "Why don't you already know this by now?"

Run-on sentences...with no punctuation or capital letters to speak of.

1. Post count snobbery. The idea that somehow, because someone has a high post count, they're more credible.
2. The petty and the mean. Come on, people, there's never a good reason to be petty and/or mean on RC. I see it often enough, though.
3. Aptasia. It's Aiptasia. Right? Or am I crazy?
4. People who make ridiculous statements like, "PC lights are worthless!" Really? Worthless? More or less worthless than your opinion? lol
5. People who ask for advice, and when they get a slough of advice that doesn't match what they were hoping to hear, they disregard it all and just do what they wanted to do anyway.
6. Zoos. This abbreviation bothers me! Why? Because it doesn't make sense. A reasonable abbreviation is "Zoas". But is it really that difficult to type "Zoanthids"?

when people in the club forum ask for prices with no intent to buy

when people use smilies like crack

the acronym LOL should be outlawed

1. Cheato, Cheatomorpha, or even worse Cheeto.
2. Zoos. Zoas is tolerable, zoos is annoying.
3. Algea.
4. Zoanthid ID requests. Does it matter what idiotic name someone on zoaid.com gave to a color morph? Just enjoy your coral and move on.

KMP - Glad to hear it!

I come to RC for information, sure, but this is also a great place to talk to people who understand things on a level my friends and family can't - when fish die and I'm sad, when my sump cracks and I can't figure out why, when I need to air frustrations, you guys are always there. If we can make each other laugh and smile, this community is just that much better... despite the little pet peeves I might have, I adore this place

I don't know if it's a pet peeve but I do find it odd that guests always assume that my corals are plants. The confusion really starts when I mention that they're animals and photosynthetic. Then I just use the very loose analogy that they're like jellyfish that stay in one place and build a skeleton to sit in.

Sometimes I see people present a problem hoping to get advice and then... immediately, someone will jump to a conclusion and possibly insult them or embarrass them instead of being constructive and asking questions to try to narrow down the possibilities.

Also... really bad spelling and punctuation makes for painful reading. Is it so hard to proof before you post???

when people say "my clam keeps jumping off the rocks"

how can something that doesnt have legs "jump"? do they ever think that the clam is simply falling because they placed it in a precarious position
