Intro

Hi all,

I figured I'd introduce myself.
My name is Shilo, and hubby and I moved out to Clements a few months ago (only moved from Vacaville.)
I've kept reefs since 2003, but when we moved, I tore down my tank and didn't figure I'd be setting it back up for a while. Anyhow, a while seems to have come....and its cycling as I type.

I look forward to getting to know everyone !

Hi Shilo and welcome to NVR

Is your tank the one in your signature? Any pics if the Grey Calcite Stand? Sounds interesting!

Hey Shilo

I'm glad you decided not to sell your tank. Have fun. Building is always the best part for me.

Thanks for the warm welcome ! I was part of the MARS group for a bit, and met some great people there, but didn't have much time to attend the meetings with work at that time. I'm hoping that I'll get to some of NVR's at some point.

Jay: I'm also glad the tank didn't sell ! I was planning on just letting it sit in storage until hubby planted the seed and got it out for me (hes a sweetheart !!)

Its been up for nearly 3 weeks now, although I've only just added the first of the rock in the past week and a bit. I'm a little dissapointed with the selection of LR thats at the LFS's as of late. Seems that most of it is uncured. I ended up getting a total of about 25lbs from about 3 different stores...after watching it after lights out, it doesn't seem that theres much life on the rock. I need to find someone locally who may be selling some good LR, or even just a piece or two. I'd ask around for a cup of sand to introduce some pods, etc. but since I have the calcite, most sand won't blend in too well ! lol I also tried finding the bottled live copepods that Reed sells, but no one seems to carry them between Stockton and Sac (only Exotic knew of the "Tigger pods", but they were out of stock.)

Anyhow, here is a pic of the setup as it is currently, with the grey calcite. For now its just the single bulb flourescent, which I'll eventually take off, replacing with my T-5's.

If you want some pods I could hook you up with some out of my sump if you would like.

I also have macro algae if you are looking to setup a sump. I have about 4 different types.

If your looking for rock there is a website I would recomend that carries top quality rock but its pricey. If your looking for high end rock and don't mind paying for it try them out.

http://www.reefscience.com/

They are really good people and I have ordered from them several times.

If you would like some nice base rock I have a ton of agrocrete hand made cave rocks. I have a few large sculptures too.

If you shoot me your email address I can send you pictures.

Thanks
Bob + Janel

Bob, I'd love some pics of the rock please. shilo_1@yahoo.com

I'm going to swing by Carters tomorrow after work and see if they have any of the Aquapods (I used those to seed my old 46g a few years ago.) If they don't have any, I might just hit you up for some pods from your sump.
I would also be interested in some macro, although not right yet. What types do you have ?

I'm actually thinking of trying something a little different than the usual reef-type setup that I've always done.
I want to set up a display that has some different macros, some softies, a few small fish and some seahorses.
Here is a pic from someone on another forum (person is bristleworm)
This is kind of what I would like to have at the end of the day.....

lanxang - thanks for the info !!

I was in there for the first time today actually. He had some for $4.50/lbs

It was just so busy in there that I didn't stay long. I'll stop back in another day when its maybe a little quieter. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah Shilo and I went into Charters the other day and got all excited. Found a sign that said "IN STOCK NOW LIVE PODS!" So off we go to quickly ask for some and....well......they had .....pods but they were expired if ya know what I mean . So we are still on the hunt.

Yeah...I forgot about that ! The Aquapods they had were kept on a display shelf (no fridge), they don't open the bottles or feed the pods with DT's or anything else. All the bottles have the little bit of chaeto, but allthat was left of the pods in all 6 bottles was some decaying pod bodies.

Oh, also, not sure if they moved or something, but they are actually not at 1083 E March, but rather at 900-something (can't remember the exact number, but it was in the low 900's.) Just FYI.

BTW, Njfalconer is my hubby, Brian !

Bummer to hear about the expired pods, hope they realize it now and don't sell them to someone. You might want to check out Kalypso Aquatics, or ask them if they can get the pods you want. I know they have a line on Reef Nutrition, but not sure if they stock it.

I'll ask them. According to the Reed website, no one in the SJ county area sells the tigger pods.

I did mention that Carters may consider sending the aquapods back if they only got them recently...the kid didn't seem to care.
They have some nice LR ! Kinda pricey though...tonga was $7/lbs...

Hi Shilo!

For some reason, I thought you were moving out of state Glad to hear you're still in the hobby. The NVR group is a great bunch to be associated with.

Kind regards,

Karl

Karl ! Long time no speak ! Nah, we're still in CA.
Moved a few miles down the road from where you got the lights that time, and then we moved out to SJ county a few months ago.
I've only just recently set up my tank again....trying to be patient.....lol
Hope you're doing good !
