Best Color For Tank Back

What is the best color for tank backs, I know people use black and blue but is one proven to be more acceptable for the reef inhabitants of a tank than another one, I personally like black backs but seen many blue what are everyones thought on this and as I said is there any scientific research that says one is better over the other one?

I don't think it matters to the fish. I like black myself but it doesn't really matter as most reefs will be covered with coraline in no time.

I prefer black. Blue looks pretty bad once a bit of stuff starts growing on it. With black you don't notice the growth so much.

I think black makes the colors "pop" because of the contrast, and prefer it to blue.

I like black on planted tanks. And black looks good for reef too. But I think I've seen more TOTM with blue than black

I figured I'd give blue a shot.

Blue gives more of an "open water" type look, especially if you have a light behind the tank illuminating the blue wall. Looks bad if you dont keep it clean. With that said, I have black.

I bought a used tank and it already had a blue back.

Funny thing is, in pictures it looks just like a clear back because the wall behind the tank is also blue....(in real life the back is a darker blue than the wall and matches the dark blue base boards and trim in the room)

It just kind of worked out that way.

If It was not already blue I would have painted it Black.

I will agree that you notice less gunk on black. I went for blue to try something new. Next tank will probably get the rock wall treatment.

I've realized my blue back is looking kind shoddy with all the junk growing on it...think tomorrow might be the day to get that stuff off of there. I need to siphon a boatload of cyano anyway.

I fell in love with the pond foam. Will probably do it to any future tanks.

Before coraline
