Potters Angel

I had the camera out tonight and wanted to share some pics of my potters angel. Ive had him for around 8 months now. I originaly purchased him from a local reefer who had him for 6 months.

He is healthy and eats like a pig. I feed him a mixture of frozen, flake and pellet. By no means is he a picky eater. He has never picked at my acros or any other coral/clam.

I had a small pair of these in my tank and they were excellently behaved towards everything else. They ate like pigs as well anything I put in there, mostly frozen mysis, flake and formula 1 and spirulina. Mysteriously one died about a month after getting him, and then a month or so later the other one died. Both were acting and eating normally up until I discovered them dead. I have heard many similar tales so my guess is there is something missing in most of our tanks that they require to survive long term. Maybe something imported on LR that isnt on all pieces and in a mature tank has time to multiply. I cant say every tank doesnt have it because I have heard a success story here and there as well. Good luck with that beautiful fish, do try and give it some of that frozen angel food as well. I dont think I have heard that before, just something I just thought of. Now that I am thinking about it, I dont remember if my tank had alot of sponges, maybe a specific species of sponge since they live in caves and crevices on the reefs where they are from.

I do buy the angel formula every now and then. As you mentioned most do die and never see 4 months in captivity.

The LR maturity maybe the key. Ive had this tank up and running for 3 yrs and the LR is mature. Who knows.

Since i bought her from another reefer who kept to for 6 months I may just have been lucky.

A pair of them would be awesome though.

we have a club member who has a potters, didnt touch any of her corals except her open brain. so she sold it.

Mine picks on brain corals and one the three gorgonians in its tank, but so far seems to leave other corals and my clam alone.

I have 7, some in FOWLR and some in my reef, I don't keep stoney corals, but they leave all the soft corals and clams I have alone. Mine have been feeding on a mix of frozen, flake and pellets (only 1 wasn't eating by the 4th day after I caught them). They all seem to be doing well, some I've had more then a year, the others since october of 2007.

Wow one is unsual in a saltwater tank, yet alone seven of them. Did you but them from the same lfs?

I have them in 2 seperate tanks, and I collected them myself. I go to HI at least twice a year and part, actually most, of my vacation is spent scuba diving and collecting fish. I love pygmy angels and I have potters, fishers, flame, and cherubs. I have colonies (some trios, some groups) of everything accept the fishers (only 2 males) and flame (only 1).

Thats great. Im heading to HI in feb. I would be interested in the details on how to collect and ship them back home.
