Live rock allright
My petstore is having a really good sale going on right now for cured live rock. It has alot of purple coraline on it and some really nice shapes. I will not be setting up my tank fpr a month and was wondering if I could get a 40 gallon tub and put all the live rock in there with a pump and heater to keep it aliive and cycle. Will I need light to keep the coraline? will I need a heater if the room temp is constantly 74F?

You should be fine. If you lose some coraline, no big deal, it'll grow back. You just want to keep the biological colonies alive. Adding a heater and powerhead will do just what you need it to do.
Just make sure you add topoff water to keep the salinity relatively stable. Doesn't have to remain spot on, like in an established tank though. How much is the sale price?

I get a pound of marshal rock for $2.50. It looks really good as well. Should I put a light over it I would like to keep the coralne, or will it not lose to much color?

Absolutely you can put a light over it. I would even do a small water change a couple of weeks out.

I agree, nice price, get what you want and put it in a tub with a heater and powerhead. Im doing it to some base rock now to get it ready to go in the tank.

I'd get a couple of clip on lights and put spiral compacts in them. You can use them later on your fuge.

I was thinking of just taking a strip light off of my freswater tank.
54 watts. |
