how to piggyback 2 RO membranes? can I piggy a 50GPD + 25GPD?

Just curious how membranes are piggybacked and if i can do it with one 50 GPD and one 25 GPD membrane?

I had just purchased a new 25 GPD membrane shortly before i decided to go with a whole new 50 GPD unit and connect them together to get a 6 stage RO/DI setup. (2 sediment, 2 carbons, the membrane and DI.)

The 25 GPD is sealed in water sitting in my fridge...can i somehow piggyback it with the new 50 GPD?

Connecting the two together shouldn't be too difficult. Are you trying to run them in series? If so, you can connect the outlet of one to the inlet of another.

However, I'm not sure if this is something that is worth doing. It'd be best if you could supply more information such as the type of filters available and their pore size.

I'm not sure what i'm trying to do...all i know is i've seen mention of two membranes being "piggybacked" to produce twice the amount of RO water. For example Spectrapure has a piggyback kit which looks to be nothing more then another membrane and housing. http://www.spectrapure.com/St_kits_p2.htm#piggy

And i figure since i have a second membrane just sitting in the fridge and the housing to go alone with it i may as well make use of it if i can.

Thanks Jay that's perfect. But now i have another question...since your using the waste water from the first membrane does the pressure restriction from running it through another membrane effect anything?

I only looked into doing this and have not yet attempted it. This thread has some great info from jdieck and AZDesertRat on the subject!
