PMAS SWAP!! June 23rd 07

Early warning of a PGH frag swap. Details:

Date - 23 June 07
Time - 12 - 5pm
Venue - Radisson PGH

Fragswapper site will be up soon, and I'll be posting a big page of the particulars. PMAS members will get an email or two.

These are always great fun, and we should be able to have a nice swap 3 months before MACNA. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM or email me.

Thanks.

Let's see. If you are hazy on the concept of a swap, here are some tips.

SELLERS

- FRAG NOW!! You will be surprised how much 2 months of growth is on a frag.
- Frag plugs - I like the ones made of aragamax sand that sit in eggcrate, but you can use almost anything. Plastic planter thingies, 1" pieces of ceramic tile, rock rubble
- Unmounted - don't be afraid to offer frags unmounted. Many people prefer to mount their own.
- Containers - Strip district in PGH Schorin's near Wholleys. 25 cups and lids for ~ $7. Bags and rubber bands if you prefer can be ordered. Get it done early.
- Salt water!! Don't be shocked when you pack 30 frags for the swap and the water level in your tank drops. A good 5g of makeup water will be handy. Free water change!
- Fragswapper!! Log on, register, post a few pics, pre-arrange. Oh so nice to pre-arrange.

BUYERS

- SMALL BILLS!! Seriously, if you walk up with a wad of fives, you are my hero. Keep your fifties for paying bills.
- Bring a Styro - or a cooler. Your livestock will thank you, and its a handy way to keep them all together.
- Fragswapper!! Log on, register, post a few want lists, pre-arrange. Oh so nice to pre-arrange.

There are a few. If you are a frag veteran, post up your tips. Frag rookie? Post up questions. The more traffic this thread gets, the more swappers we get.

The club already books a room for that date, we are simply having the swap as the monthly club meeting. Fees... not sure, I leave that sort of thing to Steve. Location... might as well get the future MACNA visitors used to the hotel.

Not at all. All are welcome. We will tell people about the club and its benefits for sure, but it is never a mandatory thing. This is another reason we don't charge entry fees or table fees. The club seeks to encourage the widening of the hobby. Some people come to swaps just to see what the hobby is about, and talk to people with tanks. I first got into saltwater at a swap in PGH many years ago.

If you come to a swap as a non member, simply buy a few frags and leave, we are still promoting captive raised animals. And that's a good thing. Hope to see you there.

Where exactly is the location of the frag swap? I'm new to this stuff, and don't quite have the lingo or the abbr. down

The Radisson is in Monroeville, PA. Turnpike exit 57, which if I recall is old exit 6.

http://www.radisson.com/monroevillepa is the hotel link, maps etc on there somewhere.

Hope that helps.

If things shape up at my house before then I will be there and bringing as many frags as I can to trade and sell, I am starting to have some nice growth on my recent additions and would love to share what I have. Plus I need to thin out a few things.

Great to see another swap in the Pittsburgh region!

If you have any problems registering you can email me, but if I don't reply, don't take it personally...emails get lost ...PM me here on ReefCentral.

Thanks.

Kevin,

It looks as though Fragswapper is catching on! And for good reason, I think that its almost time for the upgrade you have been promising for the programming of the site. I would love to see it how you want it. IT TRULY IS AWESOME already, but the additions and changes we talked about would really make it the BOMB!

You have NO idea how much I want to do with the site. I have been kicking it around again and I'm still hashing out the basic structure. This version is going to be programmatically a lot more complicated, but hopefully the user interface is still easy for folks to use.

I'm trying to break away from the "list" like feel where pages just keep scrolling down as long as needed. It works fine for limited use..but with swaps w/ over 200 some people registered and now having 5 swaps at once..the lists start to get too long.

I'll work on it when I can..but with the new baby in town it makes "free time" non-existent.

Well enjoy your time. I am sure we are all willing to wait. We can deal with the way it is because even though you have some changes in mind it still is making swaps go more smoothly and its nice to see what's going to be at the swaps!

Thanks Kev, we appreciate it!

Acer - there are ALWAYS plenty of buyers at a swap. People come with nothing simply to pick up some frags and gear. And equipment is as good as frags. Bring anything you'd like.

I was kidding about the comment - "who is buying". Poor attempt at humor which in writing is obviously beyond me.....

I just wanted to let you all know that we will be in what they call the Showroom at the Radisson Inn in Monroeville. You will get a bit of a preview regarding MACNA as this is the same room we will use for the workshops.
