Some new pics of my LPS tank

Took these last night. Just a few shots with my crappy camera. The tank is a Perfecto 70 corner with CurrentUSA 250WDE fixture (14K Phoenix bulb) and 4 HO T5's (2 of each type blue). Filtration is provided by a marineland C360 canister filter and a Seaclone, plus 1 MJ1200 for circulation. 20% w/c done weekly.

Nice. What kind of chalice is that? Looks a bit like the Hybrid Watermelon.

Some nice looking pieces, esp. the echinatas. I know its not one of the corals your wanting to show off, but I do live the hepatus tang, with all that extra black on his face. Very cool

Thanks, all. It's funny, this tank started off as something for my son (ok, that's just the excuse I gave my wife ) but has morphed into this experiment. I got tired of reading so many threads on here that said you had to have so much equipment, big skimmer, reactors, ozone, etc. I have overheard conversations in LFS with employees telling people that they couldn't have a reef tank without a spending thousands of dollars on equipment. I have been in the hobby long enough to remember that I actually kept corals before most of this equipment was readily available and had success, so I decided to use this tank with (gasp) no overflow/sump. Just the limited filtration listed above. There must be thousands of threads on this website telling you what a POS the Seaclone is, and yet, here is a thriving aquarium with just that and a canister filter. Granted, I have several other aquariums in my house that have all of the bells and whistles. I have spent big money on equipment for those tanks and for the most part it all works well, but here is a great example of doing it on a budget with success. The key, as with any aquarium is maintaining water quality. The weekly w/c is the main method of nutrient export. Funny, this tank has less algae growth than my main SPS tank with the $2000 skimmer, phosphate reactor, calcium reactor, etc...

Roblack- not sure what type it is. It caught my eye when I saw it for sale, though. It was labeled as Echinophyllia Sp.

Hormigaquatica- Thanks! I really like that tang as well, he's one of my favorites. Hard to tell from the pic, but he is an african yellow bellied morph. The yellow is very pronounced in person. I really enjoy having fish in my aquariums. This tank has also a Coral Beauty, purple firefish, true percula clown, 2 fairy wrasses (exquisite and pink margin),fat head anthias, green chromis, and a cryptic six-line wrasse.

Re: Some new pics of my LPS tank

Very nice! What is the red coral in the upper right of this picture? Is it a cynarina or something else?

Yep. Cynarina Lacrymalis. He was a tiny little guy when I got him. Skeleton is only about silver dollar size, but it opens up to about 3.5 inches.

Here's a better shot of it with flash. Definitely Cynarina. Plus, like I aaid, it gets about 3.5 inches in diameter. That would be one big trumpet

Wow, great find on the echino for sure! Check out eyecatchingcoral.com and see what you think. It looks like it to me. A frag just sold for 375 on ebay (less than quarter size). Whatever the case, NICE!

I saw that ebay auction. People are nuts, man! This one isn't that brightly colored but still pretty cool.

I hear ya. I am the last one who should be crticizing people for spending insane amounts of dough on this hobby, but when quarter sized frags of anything start selling for $375, it just feels wrong. I have a 50 cent piece size frag of the Tyree Watermelon, does that means it worth $750?? Wow! In another 10 years, I could retire That's a better investment than my 401K
