Unhappy Help me fix the neglect

I have been away from the hobby fo for the last 6 months. I am in the national guard and was sent to a school in Virginia. While I was gone I My X "took care" of my nano. All she did was feed, turn the light on and off, and add water when it got a little low. When I got back I was in shock. The tank was over-grown with green hair algae. I was supprised to see that none of my fish were dead, but my softies were not doing so good. I need help. I added 3 turbos and a lawnmower blemmie (sp?), and changer 20% of the water. What else should I do?? I thought of gust starting over, with new sand and new live-rock, but it seems like such a waist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Harleyguy

Carbon, frequent water changes (20% every other day), and skim would be the best start. Just don't do anything drastic that might have negative effects. It will go away once you get the excess nutrients out of the water.

You can brush the hair algae off of the rocks.

Removing the rocks next time you do a water change is best. Put the water in two separate buckets. Scrub the algae off in one bucket with a soft toothbrush, then rinse in the other bucket, then place the rocks back in the tank. Turbos will make short work of what's left on the rocks.
