Any LFS's carry true mexican turbo snails?
I'm still battling some hair algae after neglecting a batch of rock in a trash can while my tank was down a few months ago due to new carpet installation. It is slowly dying, but i want it gone now I have both the red turf algae and a bit of green algae. My fish keep it mowed down to nubs, but it seems to be keeping my coraline from coming back in areas it is growing. I've red quite a few articles on RC now that say the only thing that eats the red turf type is the true mexican turbos (Turbo fluctuosa). I would like to try a few of them and see how they do. I don't have many SPS frags for them to knock over right now, so I want them to suppliment my water changes, macro in the fuge, and phospate reactor in battling this stuff.

Someone took some into ATR last Saturday. Give them a call and see if they have some left.

I have done it a few times. Brought back snails, hermits and a tiny serpent star. The serpent star grew to over 8" in diameter before my room mate poured beer into my tank. The snail and hermits did really well, I still have some (hermits) and its been about two years.
Plus it's Mexico, nothing $20 can't get you out of.

it is illegal to bring these back to the US. I believe its a US customs law to take these into the country as well as a Mexican law of removing animals from the Sea of Cortez. So, the $20 may get you outta Mexicano jailo, but if caught by the US Border Inspecters, its FPMITA (Federal Pound me in the ***) prison for you
Dont think either is too strict on enforcement -JP

We used to eat Turbo's
Way back before Roger Bull and Bob Goeman started selling them as "Turbo Grazers" we would bring them back for cook outs. They get about baseball size and are tasty. When I went to Guaymas scuba diveing always brought some back for my tanks and used the "Eat them" excuse when the customs asked why I was bringing them back. They will also sometimes say you can't bring live water creatures back, nicely ask them to check the regs, it only applies to freshwater critters. Now sometimes it took awhile to get them to understand, especialy when I had a lot and they were small, then I said and some were for my fish tank. Get em along shore in evening when they come out to graze.

I took a marine biology class at Rocky Point ( through GCC). I was afraid to bring anything home but it sure would be nice to have rocky point turbos in the tank. They tolerate amazing temp fluctuations in those tidepools. Between that, the hypersalinity & the polution, they have got to be extrmely hardy.
