Can I add another female LyreTail Anthias?
I added a smallish female Lyre Tail Anthias to my 72gBF about maybe two weeks ago. I wanted to add another female and a male. Is it too late to add them? The LFS just got a bunch of real nice looking ones in today and I wanted to pick up a pair tomorrow.
Let me know what you think. I don't wanna waste the money if the two females are gonna duke it out to the death... Thanks in advance! |

I think more likely the male will harasse the females.
The problem with keeping a tiny group of them is the weakest one will likely get picked off. From what I read they live as school of hundreds with pecking order so the males can stay as the only male within the little group. |

I agree you are better to have two or three females and one male.

As long as the female you already have hasn't started changing to a male, I would get a male and two more females. Does the female you already own have a long spiked dorsal fin or spots on the pectoral fins? If the female you already have has a long spiked dorsal fin it is important to buy new females with a shorter dorsal spike. You can probably still go ahead and also get a male. If your female is developing a large spot on each pectoral fin, I would not purchase a male but instead three females.
A long dorsal spike indicates a dominant female and you will have less problems if you only have one female with a long dorsal spike. Spots on the pectoral fins mean it is on it's way to being a male, and it can not stop or go back, and you only want one male per tank.
