Acrylic Sump question
Hi,
I'm about to install my new acrylic sump into my cabinet... it will be sitting on a flat wooden surface, do I need to place foam under it like I would with a glass sump? Or is it ok with acrylic to sit it directly onto the hard surface? |

I put closed cell foam under mine. Closed cell is used in camping (and other applications) it will not absorb water and is about 5/8" thick. I did it for insulation more than anything else.
I believe that it'd be ok to set it directly on the wood as long as it is smooth. any irregularities or uneveness (sp?) in the surface of the wood will stress the sump and if it is "lumpy or uneven enough could crack the sump, leak and be an expensive seive.
