Hitchhiker - Sea Cucumber?
Sam, I found a hitchhiker on the rock sample of zoos I just got. I think it's a sea cucumber. After research, I'm afraid of this little guy "nuking" my tank. It's not the sea apple type. It's about an inch long with tenticles out from one side. Sorry I don't have a pic. I'm afraid of it eviserating its guts when picked on. I'm concerned about my flame, sailfin tang, or fairy wrasse picking on him, then boom! What say you Sam, or anyone else with experience with sea cucumbers?

msal - I have two (not sure if they are the same type you have) and they have not been a problem. These came with my TBS rock from the Florida gulf.
They can stretch out to almost a foot long now. I have a Sailfin and a cherub angle and they don’t give them the time of day and really they only come out at night. Jay

I have a couple of seacucumbers....I do not think they pack toxins...they are an echinoderm (starfish, brittlestars). Pulll off the legs of a starfish set it onits side and stretch it out. Presto cucumber.

Whatever it is, it should not be a concern Michael. There are some Toxic Cuc's out there, but they dont normally kill the tank off.
I have seen them spill their internals out and be back to normal the next day. |
