Ken,
Yes, I think that the new piece you have may be the same coral that people are calling Micromussa. It's hard to say for sure. It does look like an Acan. Once you have it for 4 or 5 months, you will get a better idea how large the polyps will be. Micros are so close to Acans, and it wasn't until recently (within 10 years) that the Family Micromussa was separate from Acanthastrea.
That means it might take a professional examination of the skeleton to have any idea on what these corals really are.

Mustang- it is hard to tell without a clear skeleton shot. There are tiny lords that are micro m sized but when you see the skeleton they are 100% lords.

As for how you see the skeleton, your snails might assist you with that one night by knocking down a death from above piece..that's how I got to the bottom of my micro lord mystery. Also when micros close up there is a distinct fleshy mantle between the polyps and thier little lips curl closed to expose it.

You have to email him if you want to place a bid. fraggfarmer@yahoo.com is the link he gave me. Correct me if I am wrong. I hope it goes for a pretty penny.

Patreek, Hammerhead and Jen,

Last warning.. This thread is about "acanthastrea pics... lets see em!" not SALES... Please refrain from posting ANYTHING e-bay, e-mail bid, sales-anyway-you-want ON THIS THREAD!

I DO NOT want to see any more "trolling for sales" in this thread.. If its your pic, post it. If its for sale, please keep it OFF this thread.. If you want a frag, USE THE PM or EMAIL system...

This is getting to be an annoying thread to keep an eye on, so if we can't follow the basic rules, it will be closed..

This is my final warning...

JenDub,

Do you have a really bad red bug or flatworm problem, or did you just feed cyclopeeze?

Hehe...that was just an appetizer for them too. This was one of my experiments I did with them. I kept them real close to the light for 4 months. The polyp size doubled in size.
Here is a pic after.

How close did you keep them? Also, what lights are you running? I just got in a couple lord frags today and may put them higher this time. I run 2x250d/e 14k hqi's and 4x39 watt t-5's btw.

I keep mine on the sandbed with 250w 14k's, and they do pretty good as long as they're not directly under the light, unless they're aquacultured, then they do well anywhwere on the sandbed

Ive got 2 400 watt 20k XM's, & mine were approx 30" away, on the sand bed. They opened up pretty well, then I tried moving the fixture up another foot, & they expanded a bunch more. IMO, they dont like too much light. It would probably help if i had 250's instead of 400's.

I am running 2 X 175w MH 14K + 4 X 55w PC Hamilton hood. I had them in a breeder box at the very top of the water. Now they are down in the sand. I wouldn't go and do this because most do not like to be blasted with intense light. I was just experimenting.

I have got mine aclimated 4" under a 400w (10" off to the sideof the bulb) 65k and they are growing very fast I have added 2-3 polyps on my lord colony in a month I also feed regulary

It took a while to get them to aclimate to the lighting but they seem to love it now that they are

hm...makes me want to 'experiment' with mine as well. i've noticed that they have faded/morphed color under the 96w powerquad and 70w mh over my 12g. i tried one in the shade and things worked out quite well...the color was just like the original coloration. i've got to try to get my green from atlantis to 'green' up again. as of late it has been more of a golden color.
