Waiting for the results of this test -- if all goes well as I suspect it will, I think AWT will have a new customer

The protocol specifications should be in place in a week or so...

If using salifert kits I am finding they are not that accurate phoshate was reading 0 however when using photmeter .05-.07

I was shocked. FYI I used NSW for a longtime but I am back to mixing as a lot of reefers/fraggers have been using ocean pure pro for the the MG and CA levels. MG1300 plus no other salt tested is close

To be honest, as a guy that has fought phosphate as high as 3.0, if I got a reading from my kit that indicated 0 and the 'real' result was .05 I'd be happy as a clam.

The difference between 0 and .03 on the Salifert card is so slight, and depending on what lighting you are looking under can even make that visual guess a tricky one.

Now if it was 0 and the photometer indicated .25ppm, I'd agree there was a problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was off by 0.05 either.

the final protocol should be done soon, then they'll begin testing.
they are trying to figure out how they'll stir/oxygenate the water for 24 hours, etc... I imagine they'll have to buy some pumps, etc.

I recently noticed that there was a company doing professional chemistry lab analysis of saltwater, aquariumwatertesting.com, and thought it would be interesting to test different saltwater mixes as there is a lot of ongoing debate on the issue...

I did a quick search and a found a thread in the chemistry forum where Carlo (cayars) suggested the same thing.

Who would be interested in chipping in to have some tests done? IF enough were interested, it could be very inexpensive, yet yield useful data for the entire site...

The growing lists of salt mixes to test are:

1. Instant Ocean
2. Reef Crystals
3. Marine Enterprises Crystal Sea Marinemix
4. Marine Enterprises Crystal Sea Bioassay Laboratory Formula
5. Oceanic
6. Red Sea Coral Pro
7. Tropic Marin Sea Salt
8. Tropic Marin PRO-REEF
9. SeaChem Marine Salt
10. SeaChem Reef Salt
11. Kent Sea Salt
12. Marine Environment dual phase formula
13. Coralife Scientific Grade Marine Salt
14. OceanPure PRO

We could start with some of the more popular salts and go from there...
Add Nutri Seawater to that list!

I think they are trying to steer away from salt manufacter's knowing about the test. You don't want any hoped up "samples".

Dr. Begalke -- How are things progressing so far? Forgive me if I missed it in a previous post, but have you and AWT worked out which salts are to be tested yet?

In general, all the salts listed above with the addition of a few NSW-like products if they can get a hold of them.

Thank you, DrBegalke, for your work to communicate the testing protocol information, and a HUGE THANK YOU goes out to awt for their generous help.
