I think the internal volume of that 1 mega-skimmer excedes that of my entire 120 display!

why yes it does. its about 170 gallons in the skimmer alone. ha ha ha ha ha
its hard to believe that a skimmer is bigger that your average mid sized reef tank.

the entire reef room will be epoxy painted and sealed from the rest of the house. then there will be special air exchangers installed in the room to vent the humidity. there will be a total of 4 air exchangers installed in the house. the pool room will have the special air exchange installed too.

How large of a staff is he planning to hire to help with maintenance? If I had the money to build this monster I would not want to spend my time cleaning skimmers, refilling calcium reactors, cleaning aquarium glass, preparing the inhabitant's diet, etc.

Wow!

What is the electrical plan? How big of a panel in going to be required to run all of this, and please say there is a massive generator plan?

Thanks for posting this for us Spazz. While I think it is unfortunate that Bill is gone from RC, it would be a true shame if this project was not documented here.

maintance will be suprizingly easy. once a week he will have to clean the skimmers and check over the system. he has a couputerized system that monitors everything for him. its going to be very state of the art. plus bill is the kind of guy that has to do maintaince for himself. he could never hire some one to do it even though he could afford to. just like he could afford to buy all the equiptment needed to build this tank. he is making it himself instead. that way its built the way he wants it instead of the way the factory wants it.
talking about the ca reactor. i was on the phone with bill tonight. he was building a bigger reactor for that system. he decided to go with 1 reactor that will be 18" in diam and stand about 5-6 ft tall. it will be a ecirculating reactor much like his smaller one he built for the 1500g tank. it should hold about 400-600 lbs of media.

the house will have 2 main pannles. im not sure if one is for the tank and the other for the house or what. but they will be both 400 amp services. he has a very large garage so he will need alot of power for that alone. then there is the toy building shop in the basement of the house on the opsite wall as the fish tank. the entire basement will be one big reef room in a sence. all his tooling will be sealed off from the fish room but accessable from a doorway between the 2 rooms.

i dont know what happened for bill to get banned but if he did a crime he did his time - now let him back in!! id love to see construction photos and see his input on this forum. theres gotta be a way to let him back in rc! even if there was a probation period or something but his input on soo many things would be very valuable on this forum. i know some other instumental people left as well and i think alot of people would like to see them come back too... BBB! BBB! BBB! (bring back bill)

not really. he builds most of his own equiptment so its not going to be as expensive as you would think. plus he already has most of the stuff neede to run the tank.

not sure on that one yet. the system will be so big that water changes wont need to be as often as you would think as long as the skimmers can keep up with the bio load of hundreds of fish and corals.
