Sorry if I'm wrong, but does the giant skimmer cup seem to be leaning to the right a bit?

I may be missing the obvious altogether here, but what is the point of the observation?? The only thing that would impact on is if there was a wet neck in the top of the riser as the water would preferentially spill over in one side more than the other.

yes the skimmer cup is off just a little bit. but bil plans to change the riser tube out to an 8" tube any ways. then he will straighten the cone out so its straight. the cone is kind of funky. the guy that made it for bill didnt use a mold he just press molded it. is its not perfectly straight. in the near future im hoping to get my big mold so i can make a cone to fit his skimmer. the little bit of angle dont hut the performance one bit. the 6" riser tube being too small is hurting the performance a little. but neither of us expected the skimmer to handle that much air. its a small hickup that will be easy to fix. but the rest of the skimmer is flawless in its design. i was watching the bubbles in the bottom of the skimmer just hovering there for long peroids of time. the bubbles are smaller that what big ugly is producing. i think there about half the size of big uglys bubbles. its more like fog in the main chamber.

Oh, guess I was getting ahead of myself. Tilting may actually benefit the skimmer.

Heres a pic of what I have so for waiting for the tiny might pump.
I kind if tried something a little different for the cone. I shape it more like a dome. It gives the skimmer more height and I thought it looks cool. I also copied the twist lock I bought from Spazz for my last skimmer. It was interesting to say the least to make with just a router table. I just need to find a rubber oring to fit the groove I cut and it is water tight. The body is 12 in diameter and the riser neck is 5 inch diameter. I think i may also put a flange on the base to have access to clean it out every now and then. I am not going to glue the bottom together until I decide. These are some pics with my son AKA helper!

so the million dollar question is which one of your wifes stainless steel mixing bowls did you use?
also is the bottom box going to be big enough to hook the plumbing to?

it alol depends on how you plan to mount the stockman pipe and intake plumbing. if you plan to do it the way me and bill are doing it then no the box wont be wide enough to get the pipes on the top of the box. if you going in from the sides then it will cost more for the fittings. but its up to you how you want it. its your skimmer. im just wondering how it will be put together.

Yeah I was going to go thru the side. I already had the sheet acrylic in 13 x 25 pieces so I will make the size work.

My question is how much building a skimmer like this costs excluding the pumps and fittings?

Well, the acrylic is the costly part. The 12 in tubing is about 70.00 a foot average. That should give you an idea for the cost on the size you might want.

I like that bowl shaped reducer...it will cause the bubbles to rise fast around the outside, but slow down right before they 'spill' er...rise up into the final neck. That could reduce turbulence in that area... Im interested to see...
