one thing never to do to your fish

this post was copied from a thread at a different site. this is one thing you should never do to your fish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple weeks ago i got this huge (12") Miniatus Grouper for the 220 reef. Anyways I noticed a little bit of parasite action on him the last few days so i figured i better figure out a way to get him out (for a FW dip). The old bait and switch with a piece of food and a net was futile...he is super smart and super fast. Then I remembered the old fishing method that works so well for any fish that has a large enough mouth! So I got a #6 Eagle claw and tied it on about 3 feet of 8lb test. Then i speared a piece of squid and tossed it in...he was hooked immediately and after a short fight broke the hook right at the bend and swallowed the rest food and all I had to upgrade to a walleye sized hook for the next cast and got him out after a short fight (and broken bulb). He got his dip and is back in the tank and looks good .....but i wonder....like the title says....are Crappie hooks poisonous??

Its probably ok as long as you dont have any inverts of corals that are sensitive to heavy metals, but with a grouper in the tank I dought you have any inverts.

Yes Spazz, since you are such an expert in tank care and DIY projects, maybe we should share this recent post by you from another message board....

well jeffie dont feel bad. i think i just nuked my tank today. i went down to look a the tank and found my expermental maxi swirl in the tank. i think the tank ened up with a big dose of electritiy from it.the water was slightly cloudy from it. i hurried up and did a 40 gallon water change and cleaned the skimmer, it was freaking out. so my tank might be toast too. the fish look fine but the corals look terrible. there all white and no pylop extension at all. my clams are closed up and not looking good either. if i loose all my corals out of this i may not even house corals in this tank anymore. i might wait until my new tank is done and then start over from there. im hoping there just stressed out and will come back but im not for sure. my tank was just starting to look good too. this really sucks! im going to try to do another water change tomorrow. i have to wait for the ro/di unit to make enough water.

ya well as you know MR NASTY there is a difference between harm by accidents and harm done on purpose. there is a major difference and you know that. i think every one can see the difference between the two. the funny part about this is you are the one who is looking bad not me. i feel sorry for waht happened to my tank. you dont feel sorry for what you did to your fish. there is a major difference there.
