Help Me I.D. This Wierd Snail!
He has a very flat shell on the other side...funny thing is...I tried to pull it away from the glass of my fuge to attatch it somewhere else where I could take a pic of its back...and uh, it tore in half instead...the body stayed on the glass...and the half with the shell and mouth ran/slimed off very quickly. But I've got more! Anyway, help me figure out what it is! (right now, just in my fuge)

Stomatella for sure,
Yep, I have lots of them, they mostly come out at night. Very good for your tank..

Stomatella. I had one, LFS gave me a second for free, have 20+ now, all in a 10g tank. Wonderful little guys, fun to watch, and save me money on astrea or trochus.
The behavior you witnessed with the snail splitting in two is their defense mechanism; they will leave their "tail" behind if threatened, just like a reptile. |

I want one now. Anyone know where you can get them online?

I've never seen them online, but I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find them. They are VERY common.

I had one of those and the same thing happened, broke apart!
It really stung me though, my finger tip swelled up and it felt like it had a sliver of glass in it for almost 48 hours. Maybe I'm allergic to them or something because I've never heard anyone else say these snails sting. |

Snowboarda42, which Washington do you live in, DC or the state of? I live in Portland, OR - if you're nearby I can give you some - I have a ton of them and lots of babies too. They are prolific.
