How good is this ballast for DIY light?

That's for a 70 Watt halide.

I suppose it will be good for a nano-tank or something simliar.

I've used plenty of smaller halides...but none this small...sorry I couldn't help.

yeah it's for a 70W MH DIY that i'm doing for my smaller tanks, but want to know the quality before I buy them

I have used them and they work fine. Sometimes shipping takes a while, but for the price they are worth the wait.

do the run hot for a 70W? also have you ever run into any problems with them?

I'm guessing you found that link in another forum? A DIY MH tut. I was thinking of doing the same thing but with a 150W one instead. Seems cheaper than buying a brand name one for about $300. Either way it should be worth a try.

The ballasts did not run very hot...no hotter than any other one. I never had any problems with mine.....here are some old pics of my AP24 project. I ended up putting the ballasts in an enclosure to keep them off the floor

Nice job shouldabenacowboy, so you have 2 X 70w MH in what looks like a 20 gallon tank?
