tank looks great edward, a SSB would put it right off the charts . IMO having the island look and all the open space for fish swimming leaves too much open space on the bottom and w/o the sand it does'nt look natural and the eye naturally wanders to that instead of the display.

Of course we can take that all w/ a grain of sand as these observations are being made by a welder

GSM, yes it is. All my lights are on (3x250w SE's, 2x150w Spotlight, & 4 80w T5's).

jnarowe, thats exactly what naka was doing.. even better.. how about a green carpet of green polyps stars? Never seen anyone do that. That would look cool and make the tank come alive.

Marc, I agree. Something needs to be down there.

Chad, we are seeing eye to eye. That's exactly how I feel. This was just a test run after my incident and will lay something back down very soon.

I'm still in my planning stages. I've been quietly following your thread since the beginning. It looks like you being the guinea pig for me is paying off... knock on wood, but your tank is still standing with no seam leaks. In the meantime, I'm quickly becoming knowledgable of home HVAC systems. Which brings me to my question... how is your humidity level in the house? Is your A/C running all the time? I still want to do the rimless tank, but the humidity control in the summer is my primary concern. Mine is going to be 72 x 30 x 24 and installed in the basement. I'm working new HVAC equipment into the equation. I'm planning to have a separate mini split A/C unit in the equipment room, but the tank would be open in the living area of the basement much like yours is in your living area.

By the way, every new picture you post just builds the excitement for me. Awesome work and keep 'em coming!

Ack! Do NOT put GSP in that gorgeous tank. It will become a single species tank in no time. A patch of zoas looks awesome though. LittleBlueGT has his tank bottom covered in zoas and it looks great. Gotta trim them, but not like GSPs.

very interesting. So in time they will overgrow SPS, and I didn't know that. So maybe I should take the stance of starting them in the middle of the bottom rather than close to the rocks. I'll have to contemplate this more as it will be extremely difficult to trim them later during any kind of a hostage situation. Food for thought anyway.

oldtimer, my humidity has been in the 50's. It's not bad at all. I dont get any condensation on the windows either. I always keep my AC on also. I dont think it was too hot this summer like previous years in Houston either. I always keep my room aerated also with a regular standalone fan 24x7. Hope that helps and let me know if you have anymore questions.

H20/janarowe.. I still think it would look cool with GSP carpeted all over the floor. But you are right.. it will dominate the tank unless I have sand around the live rock areas. The reason why I know it would look good is because I have seen many of amano's japanese freshwater tanks, and it's unbelievable.

Well, I have coraline algae growing on my sand, so I would bet the GSP would ultimately do the same. I have a large patch of it on my peninsula and it is growing quite fast. It was among my first newbie purchases.

I figured it would look nice and cover the rocks, but now I have some spectacular corals encrusting whole rocks and I prefer that much more.

What Tunze did you end up getting E.? I just got a 6101 last week. They are very cool,massive range of power flow. Basically a 6000/6100 all in one depending on wether you use the 15v or 24v jumper
