I had both in 65 tub for couple years. Lost flame to parasite brought in from another fish. They were great! I added them at the same time and they were the same size. Remember that all fish are different though. I also had a 55 tub with bi-color, flame, and coral I added at the same time and they all did great too

So, basically, I think the 2 main factors (based on responses) is adding them together, and the size of your tank.

So, IF you were to try this, you definitely need to add them at the same time, AND you should have a bigger tank....at least a 90 would be better.

Maybe I'll get one or the other for the 55G. I think I got my wife talked into letting me do a 90 in the office! Might have a better shot in that one!

An informed decision is always the best kind.

Good luck in your plans.

i had a flame and added a coral beauty and even 6 months later they still squabble sometimes violently but 80% of the time they leave each other alone. this is in a big tank too.

This is the OP and from this statement, I believe that he has made up his mind.

Well, Im not 100%, but I am definitely leaning that way. I must admit, I do love when things are done (and done well, and healthy, and safe) that go against conventional thought and common opinion. Many times people are able to do things that are not in the realm of possibility for everyone, due to thier ability to spend time on things, etc. Sometimes, people with experience can experiment, so to speak, to figure out ways of doing different things.
I know a FL & a CB can go together, cause Ive seen it, and many people here have done it successfully. Well-fed, healthy stress free fish are always the best bet, and a well maintained tank, with fat happy fish give you the best oppurtunity to do alot of different things with your tank.
And sometimes, it is left completely to chance. You might get fiesty fish, you might get laid back fish. Its a gamble, one that has to be weighed out against the pros/cons, the cons being the health and well being of the fish.

You just gotta decide if its worth it. Part of me wants to try it, and part of me says why gamble with thier well-being.

Ill probably do the right thing!
