Cuttlefish Where to Buy? 75G how to keep?

Hello RC,
I have a bare bones 75g tank and would like advice on cuttlefish

1) Where is the best place to purchase cuttlefish.

2)How many cuttles can I have?

3)Should I use sand? How deep?

4)What should I do for filtration?

5)Skimmer how big what type?

6) How about lighting?

Any help woud be great thanks RC

A 75 is too small for a S officinalis.

I disagree Brock. If proper procedures are taken, what is the big deal? Percentage wise, more people get killed by electrical outlets or water heaters than blue rings.

Not to mitigate the potential danger of BR's, but I cannot find a single instance of someone being bit by one in captivity, not to mention killed. More reefers lose their homes, or parts of their homes to fires, but no one is seriously arguing that we shouldn't keep reef tanks - just take reasonable precautions. I see BR's as the same thing. With reasonable precautions, they shouldn't be a problem.
YMMV.

I still think it's a bad idea. Honestly, what's wrong with a bimac? It's only going to live for a couple months tops. Is it really worth it?

Isn't it obvious that more people will be killed by electrical outlets when they appear numerous times in almost every home?? How many people do you think have a BR?

dustins got a point. there are wayyyyy more people who deal with outlets on adaily basis than with BRs.

if you go with a BR please for your own sake and anything else in the house DO YOUR RESEARCH! don't bother researching an antivenin, there is none.

have you ever kept an octo before? BRs aren't like keeping alionfish for example. so its got venom, woop dee doo. they can't kill you. they can't crawl out. I find too often that people will put lids on their tanks but still find their ell on the ground one day cuz it crawled out a one inch wide opening. i cannot stress the inportance of a lid with NO (and by no i mean NO NO NO) openings including via filters and overflows!

if this is going to be your first octo, forget it. keep it in the back of your mind and get yourself a bimac. the reasons for this are endless. YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO CARE FOR ANY OCTO BEFORE GETTING A BLOODY BR.

edit: just so ya know, i usually don't tell people not to get whatever they want because its their money. but when someones (and other ppl like friends, family, unsuspecting but curious children, pets...etc) LIFE may be in danger, i feel it's my duty to tell you not to get this thing.

Are there any for sale?

I was going to get a cuttle fish about a year and a half ago from Octopets, but held off until my tank got estabished. I went to buy one about a week ago and octopets is no longer there. I have looked else where and can not find one. Does anyone know where to get one?

The beak of a BR is only tiny, a BR or any octopus can escape through a hole a fraction bigger than there beak.
Accidents can happen.
A bite can be unfelt and leave you on the ground within minutes.
look up Tetrodotoxin.
You would want to be an expert or at least know E.A.R.

"I disagree Brock. If proper procedures are taken, what is the big deal? Percentage wise, more people get killed by electrical outlets or water heaters than blue rings. "

Every home in America has electrical outlets, and almost all have water heaters. 1/10,000 have a reef tank, not to mention a blue ring

Well ventilated hoods, well maintained electronics, driploops, and not offending Thor. Thats how I avoid reef tank fires.

Do a search for fire here on on any of the reef boards.
GFCI's are important, as are quality power strips, keeping those strips away from water or spray, drip loops, proper vho endcap set up, and common sense.

I knew about the drips loops.

What do you consider "quality" or do you just buy the most expensive powerstrip?

I use those really thin coralife lights I am assuming that they have a "proper endcap setup"

What are "GFCI's?

I really meant are there any recalls on equipment used in the aquarium hobby?

I suggest the search function on this or any of the reef board.
