Mine were out this morning waving in the current. Not just 1 or 2 either, lots of them.

Well, Amm. is still staying below 1. Lots of life but still have not seen the crab come out of its cave yet. I did see a gorilla crab pincher laying on the sand bed this morning. Must have had some sort of battle last night??

I do have a question about posting pics if anyone can help. I have 11 pics but I'm having a hard time getting them below 50k. I'm no image expert by any means so any help would be great.
Thanks,
Eric

Smile Turkey wing bonanza!

I've been lurking about for six months or so first setting up and then waiting for my TBS to come in. My first half came in on Wednesday and I've got a few pictures I thought I would try to post. I hope it works right!

This is an overall shot of the first half which looks similar to what others have been posting lately.

This is a shot from one end of the tank.

Nice green sponge I think.

I think the pink thing is a tunicate, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know what the thing with all the lines is, I am supposing it is a sponge. There do seem to be a wide variety of sponges.

This rock is great, it has at least 7 turkey wing clams on it!

They all are fully encrusted with sponges and such but this one takes the cake. It has a range of tube corals and cup corals.

So far the cycle has been pretty uneventful, I've done a few 10% changes to try to keep on top of things. The protein skimmer has been working overtime. There was a small mantis shrimp loose in one of the bagsand one very large gorilla crab that I nabbed (actually he nabbed the forceps) the first day, both are living in my quarantine tank. I've got a couple of Seio 1500's in the tank so the water is circulating pretty well. The corals and the clams seem to appreciate it. I spotted a small octopus and and a lancelet the first night but I don't expect they will last long. There are several limpets and small urchins and a small porcelain crab showed up last night. I've also heard some clicking so I suppose there is another mantis or pistol shrimp somewhere.

Does anyone know if I should start doing something to keep the Turkey wings alive at some point in time. I know that feeding isn't recommended for the first half but with 7 of them in there I suspect they'll do a good job filtering stuff out.

I'd also like to thank everyone for there informative posts here and elsewhere, it has really helped with my setup.

Randy

Wow Randy...your rock looks spectacular!! Thanks for sharing them with us.
Yes, that is a sponge you were asking about.

There are so many different type sponges, and algaes, we could go nuts just figuring out which is which.
Let the tank cycle first, then you can worry about feeding it. Nothing is going to die just yet, and if it does, it was going to regardless of not being fed.

I think I found the Mantis. He/she poked its head out of a hole. I saw his bright green head and some yellow eyes on tenacles...he keeps ducking back in so I can't get a picture. He is so bright green I'd keep him, if he'd quit clicking! Then again, I know he'll get hungry soon and start killing stuff. At least the rock he is in is a smaller one.

I don't know what this is. It moves really slow.

This is a limpet correct? It need to go right?

Feather dusters.

I don't knwo what the names of these are. I knowit has been said on here millions of times though.

What are these things? They appear to be tubes with gravel on them.

I like the color of those green sponges too. I think I saw 2 of them on my rock but I think they are on the backside and can't see them.

The limpet will devour the sponge it's sitting on if you let it.

Do the limpets come off easy or do you have to work at them?

Mine went from .2 to .4 I did a 10 gal. water change, just because.

Other parameters:
Temp 77
PH 7.77 Went lower after the rock was added. was .8.06
Nitrite 0
Haven't tested Nitrates
CA = 375 (First time for this test) is that right?

some people argue that you should let the ammonia go all the way to 1 b4 doing a water change or you will be perpetuating the cycle. i've also seen others argue this is not true. who knows?

You got some nice looking rock too Eric.
Keep practicing with the pictures. Nobody will ever tell you you're posting too much. (they only tell me that)

That is one bright green mantis Nirol!
