$200 for a skimmer...
If you had $200 for a skimmer which one would you buy. Which skimmer have you guys had the best experience with?

ETSS if you can get one for that price. But shopping for a skimmer based on price will limit yoru options a lot so if you can just wait a little more and save up another $200 and get a really nice skimmer.

I would spend $50 more & get a ASM-G3, that's what I put on my 90g reef to replace the POS ETSS Reef Devil. The G3 pulls out more stuff in a week then the ETSS would pull out in 1-2 months.
My complaint with the G3 is a noisy pumphowever it's quieter then the ETSS also ER has some great deals on the ER Blems, possibly something there would work for you. I went with the G3 because it was $50 cheaper then a comparable blem ER & I didn't have to pay shipping on the ASM |

i'm runnig a seaclone right now and i DON'T like it. i've heard some good things about the coralife superskimmer,if you need one right now that would be a good choice.

dont listen to jimbo045, he is a troll that only makes short 5 word responses then doesn't respond once someone calls him on his BS. Seaclones are not worth the money and time that it takes to get any sort of performance out of them.
IMO a ASM G-2 can be gotten for about $220. they will work but like viggen said. save another $50 and get a G-3 and you will never have a problem with your skimming. now if I only had $220 i'd get a G-2 like that.

from what i hear too ASM skimmers are very comparable to Deltec skimmers as far as performance.

I would get an ASM, that's what I'm going to do. My heavily modified seaclown 150 produces about 2 liters of darkish tea colored skimmate a week, so it's not too bad, but it's a pain to keep it running efficiently.

For ~$200, an ASM G1-X. For an extra $20, G2.
Seaclown?

I have a seaclown right now. I'm looking to upgrade since I've decided to not go FOWLR but to do reef. ASM G3 u say? Alright guys you have never steered me wrong so far. Thank you.

I'm looking to upgrade and I planning on getting the ASM G-3. For me, I feel that's going to give me the best bang for the $. But you should be fine with a G1 or a G2. I'm going for the G3 in hopes that one day I'll upgrade to a bigger tank.

another vote for the G3. a little more expensive than you wanted, but it's the smart buy if you're buying an ASM, not much more for a lot better skimmer. i just bought one and couldn't be happier with it.

Now a 55 gallon reef would be overkilled with a G3 wouldn't it. I've heard that too much skimmer is a bad thing, can't that take too much out of the water.

IMO you will not overskim ..so just buy a bigger one .. would not hurt the system.

Thanks guys is that in sump only? Because that would mean I would also need a bigger sump. Which would also mean I would get my bigger tank first and well....just tell me to do it please.

you know you want it...
And FWIW I just got a G3 and needed a bigger sump, too - I went to HD and got one of those big clear rubbermaid tubs 36x16x14...its the perfect sump. But before I install it I am going back and getting a smaller one too: about 18x15x12 that I am going to put inside the first and put the G3 in it. All the overflow from the tank will fall into the small tub with the G3, get skimmed and the G3 return will dump out over into the big sump (I got the gate valve mod)...The 2 tubs/sumps cost about $8-10 each.

BTW- ASM's are nice but they are not the same as Deltec performance wise. Deltecs are recirculating and AMS's are not- There's a noticable difference in performance there given the same pump and skimmer body. AMS's can be modded to run recirculating to bridge the gap though...That may be something you'll want to look into at some point...
