hydroponic MH for fish?
Hi, wondering if I can use hydroponic metal halides for my reef tank? I found a pair of lights at a great deal used by a medicinal marijuana grower parting out his system(yeah,I live in San Francisco. this place is crawling with potheads). I think plant lights uses a lower rating so I may need to get 10k-14k bulbs? But other than that it's the same electronics, right?

Yes they will work, I have a pair of lights from a warehouse.
Just change out the bulbs. |

They should work fine with the bulbs of a reef spectrum. What are the specs on the ballasts?

I haven't seen the ballasts yet. There is a grower in my area taking down a farm and selling all these light fixtures. I will go down there and check it out this weekend. These are pendant lights. Thanks for your response. If these work out I will post here so others will know about them.

They work, you just have to match the ballast to the bulb's. And the reflector's generally aren't nearly as good.

It will work but you will likely want to change the bulbs. The hydroponic MH bulbs are about 4K. It will look really yellow in color.

Yeah the seller mentioned 4K for vegging. I will switch out to 14K. Thanks all and happy holidays to you and your tank.
