dsb ...if they arent doen right can there be consequences
i ahve recently came over a battle ina reef forum about dsb...this battle is different i feel from others
i advised a newbie that sand beds can be great and are very benifitail, but they need to be done right. i also adivsed to read up on sand beds to make sure that he does it right because if not the sand bed could cause deadly problems. i was blasted away with peoiple saying there is no way to do an improper sandbed, and that all a person has to do is throw in the sand and there can be no problems. i feel that is rediculous. i agree sandbeds can be great but surley they must be done right. i mean isnt that the way it works for everything? there are alot of aspect to a sand bed and there are many things that need be taken into account when setting one up. i have tried to provide proof but nothing is good enough and i have been getting replys saying that i have no proof that problems can arise. DR Ron knows more about sand beds then anyone and i would very much like to know his thoughts on this subject as i feel that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things and there are consequesnces thanks very much for reading this hope to hear from people |

Hi,
If one follows the directions I have given, it is very hard to go wrong with a sand bed. They are simple to set up and easy to maintain. Problems occur when people use the wrong types of sediment, or do not innoculate the bed with appropriate animals, or "stir" the bed, or introduce "sand sifting" animals. In these situations, the net result is a build up of nutrients in the system. |
