Hair alage

I have been fighting hair alage but think I am on the winning end. Question I have is should I leave my lights on the same amount of time. I am concerend if I change the amount of time it might star another bloom of alage or effect my corals etc. Any thoughts ?

You need to take your rock out and scrub it and then put it back in the tank when all the hair algae is gone. Then I would recomend using RO water, increasing flow in tank, and feeding less. Air algae will only grow if the reefer lets it grow. I would keep the lights on for around 6-9 hours a day. Have you been doing regular water changes?

Algae is all about nutrient control, it sounds like you must be doing something to keep that in check. Good for you!

Your lighting duration should not change any. It's not the light causing the outbreak, it's the nutrients that feed it. How long do you have them (lights) on now?
