Original Rainbow vs newer Rainbow Acan

Here is a pic when I got it about 20days ago.
I taught it was OC Acan

Than it became this now

This is one from tigaboy Original Rainbow Acan. I got it about 2 month ago from directly from tigaboy

As you can see they are vary close to each other from Original Rainbow Acan from Tigaboy.

Followings are one people call Raibow Acan but little different (Yes, they have Rainbow color in them but little different color than original one I think)

Following is from wild and as you can see you can tell difference.
I do not think it will color up close to tigaboy's original one it does not have much Orange/yellow in each polyps but certain area of colony is Orange.

Since I see difference between some Rainbow Acan and own few different ones I just want to discuss with you guys.

I am not here to say some of rainbow is not true rainbow I am saying they all have rainbow color in them but there is some difference in them. I do see so far two little different color Morph Rainbow Acan.

Again I am not here to say some are not true Rainbow but just want to say there is two different type of Rainbow.

Thanks

Chris

Hmmm, when I look at the AtlanticReef's rainbow....

I get confused again. Rainbow... OC....

Ok, let's see them...

Whoever got AtlanticReef's rainbow and Tigaboy's rainbow could you put pics in this posting?

Yes, let's see them. I just want have a clear understanding of color pattern for Original Rainbow and newer kind rainbow and also OC Acan. Since this might confuse people as well.

Is AtlanticReef's and Tigaboy's rainbow same color? From beging? Who got the first one?

Whatever my piece is I love them but I want to have clear understanding.... Since I start to see different pattern of color on rainbow acan this bugs me so much now.....

Cool, that looks like OC that I know...

Come on guys let's pics?

I think at the end we might be able to find 2-4 different color pattern of rainbow acan.

I know OC Acan has just little green in them but not like rainbow I think.

Kimberly, You have vary nice OC Acan.

Cool

Hey Chris, did you trade part of your acan to AG? When I was there this weekend he was showing me an acan in his small display that looked just like that.

Oh, AG I got my wild one from him (I did not give it to him but I got from him : )). hopping that it might color up to one like original one but seems like not.

As you can see orange color is on certain area of colony not each polyps.

1st, 2nd, 3rd pics are from same piece and I got it from somewhere else and it has orange color on every polyps but I still see two different color pattern not counting newer rainbow (orange color only on certain area)

Thanks

Chris

The difference between some of corals could be growth. The captive raised OC and Rainbow Acans look different to me than a fresh wild piece. The wild pieces have that perfect round corallite, while the ones that start as frags, grow or even encrust onto the rocks and look different. I think that's why many people think that the OC and the Rainbow Acan are different from a regular A.echinata. But then, I could be wrong. My OC frags produce babies like a lord does, by encrusting on the rock, and springing up tiny polyps. I also have seen my piece have a corallite divide in half.

Here are my two pieces.

This one came directly from Tigahboy, but not Rainbow.

This piece came through a few reefers, but it's origin is from Mike at The Captive Reef.

Cool, nice Randy.

I love that OC... going to get one hmmmm...

Again anyone want to put rainbow acan pics?

I think OC color pattern is clear even it is A.echinata or not this remain unsolved yet.

But rainbow there is still few different color pattern as I see different ones.

Thanks

Chris

Hey, Tigahboy....

Good to see you here... That looks awsome I hope mine color up to that...

It's got lots of color in them. Orange on most of polyps and green, blue...

I guess OC Acan is mostly Orange + vary little green (sometimes)

I got the other piece of rainbow today which is same as one that colored up. (From same guy and from same mother colony) I will take pic tomorrow. I put all my flash card at work so not able to take a pic.

If you see pics of this 2 piece you guys will say WOW they look vary different but one that is not colored up yet you could tell it's got potential since each polyps have Orange tint there...

Cool, let's see more rainbow acan pics so that at the end of this posting we could say there is 2-3 different color pattern rainbow are there...

So far I saw only my rainbow pics and tigahboy and OC from Randy.

I know there is much more than 2-3 piece out there so let's see them....

Thanks

Chris

That's nice looking rainbow you have coralite.

Hey, here it is. No photo shop here as well : )

Due to you use Aquarium light if you do not set certain white balance true color will not show on the pic (I figured it out even more...)

Told you guys mine has lots of color and bright...

Here is one before it color up

Here is after color up (only had it in my tank 10days) so more color up will come I think

Here is one from wild

I have 100gallon long (60x18x20) about 3-4" sand.

2x 150 watt HQI (ARO ballast with 10k ICECAP bulb) and 3x 80 watt T5 (ICECAP 660 with 2x ATI blue+ and ATI Aquablue)

I was thinking about putting 3x 150 watt HQI (10k ICECAP) and 2x 80 watt T5 ATI blue+ but since it will be mostly LPS I said use 1x 150 HQI 20k to prop tank than add one more 80 watt T5.

So far I like all my corals color and they do color up vary good.

Thanks

Chris

I might have another colony rainbow acan tomorrow that looks exactly the one in my avatar! It's very big double than the one I got(60 to 70 heads). The deal is still going on, I hope I can get it tomorrow...I already saw it in person. will post the picture later if I get it...
