I looked it up, here is the run down on it...it is in the faviidea family. Chris said it holds those colors really well. I managed to get a piece of this. I am looking forward to it.

James,
Chris said it is almost golden yellow hue, more to the yellow side than the gold side. He said it is quite striking and holds the color really well.
I'll know more tomorrow when I get it settled in the tank .

I have a Barabattoia at home (I think... there is a species of Echinophyllia that superficially appears the same; Ive not checked out the skeleton).
It is a very hardy coral, surviving a long trip back home from IMAC last year, and acclimated very well. I will say that the color has changed Dramatically over time. The coral was originally a nice bright, multi tone green and has developed much more of a brown cast to it. It would need fairly blue lighting to maintain its color I think.
Great coral though; not a very fast grower, but it has an interesting texture to it.
This is from when I first got the coral. Like I said, not 100% on the ID, but its the best guess I have

Wendy, I know, huh? pretty spectacular...if I can get it to hold those colors. Always a crap shoot with stuff like this.
I'll take a shot of it when I get it, I suspect it will be all stressed out and look nothing like the shot above. One can hope though .

As promised, pictures upon arrival, this coral looks as good as the photo. I am not as good of a photographer as the folks at Reefer Madness but you get the idea. I could not be happier .

Closeup, sorry for the blur, I have yet to figure out how to get the whole thing in macro mode focused well.

I've only seen one coral that looks similar to that one. Both are hot looking faviids.

http://exoticreefs.us/repository/ree...rofthesun.html

It was a show stopper at the BA-CFM.

tacocat, Yea, I pretty much dropped my jaw when I saw it on the RM site, had to have it. The one you posted is mighty fine. I hope mine holds the color like that one...whose piece is that?? Right now mine is on the bottom 26" from lights getting medium flow. My lights are just 2x250w MH 14K phoenix bulbs that are at the end of their life...I will be replacing the bulbs in a few weeks and then replacing the whole fixture in May/June with the new Maristar 2x 250w DE MH/4x 54w T5 fixture. I'd really like this piece to hold the color or color up even more, We shall see. Very sweet piece.

Alicia,

That coral belongs to Ron Joncola of Reeftec Designs. You made a good choice by buying that coral from RM. Ron brought three frags to the BA-CFM, and sold two within the first hour, and John sold the last one in a few hours on his website.

Both of your corals look great, and I have only seen yellow eye faviids twice (yours and Ron's), so if I would have seen that on RM, I would have jumped on it. Most of the faviids seem to hold their color well.

Hector

tacocat,
I figured it was Ron Joncola's. I am so glad to hear the faviids hold their color pretty well. That is two shots of the same coral. It is a nice size piece, 9 full polyps and 4 or so 1/2 polyps along the sides. I wonder what the growth rate is for these guys, I'm thinking so-so. The colonies are ususally pretty massive according to Veron.
paininthewrasse, don't be jealous, I'll share...no worries .

the name is way too hard to pronounce. How about an easier one. It's golden, almost blonde, and the name sounds like Barbie....hehehe, just kidding.

My piece of this coral, the one shown above started to brown out on me within a few days of adding it to the tank, the yellow mouths stayed yellow despite the browning around the mouths. It then made a complete turn around, I guess it got settled in and is now turning a nice blue like Ron's. I'll have to try to shoot a picture of it this weekend. I am quite pleased with the changing color on this.

BTW, Eric Borneman says the ID of Barbattoia amecorum is wrong...He says it is just a nice looking faviid. I kind of thought the Barbattoia amecorum was in the faviia category...I am kind of ID challenged though and get confused by all the family, genus, phylum, etc. stuff. I must have been daydreaming in High School when they taught all that stuff.
