Can someone tell me is this a photo of a female lyretail anthias?
She is more orange in real life:

You'll have to look very, very carefully. The P. squamipinnis females rarely have 2 discernible stripes and they really never make it through the rest of the body. P. pleurotaenia females have 2 easily discernible stripes and they continue through the rest of the body. IMHO, I think the one picture from oceanlight is misidentified.

i think your right. i looked up the P. squamipinnis in one of my books, and the pic i posted isnt what the one in the book is. not only do the stripes not go through the body, both the male and female have a long dorsal spine.

Ok thanks everyone. Was sold the fish as a lyretail but this squarespot that I have is a beauty.

Do Squarespot anthias mix well with other anthias such as lyretails?
