I have the Montipora nudi's

Hi,
I've just posted this story on Ultimatereef over here in the uk.. I thought I'd post it up here for you guys as I hope to add some pics of the nudis as and when I start to break up the corals.


OK so this isnt a good story, you may recall my 'prob' with low alk and pH and my thinking that these low levels were the cause for some sps to lose tissue around the base...particularly M capricornis.

As you can see I'm up late tonight , finished a cuppa a bit earlier and thought while I'm downstairs I'll take a gander into the tank with the torch....horror!!!!

All over the undersides of ALL bar one of my monti's are these lil buggers..



I first noticed small white areas appearing on the topside of various monti's which gradually grew until whole 'swirls' of coral were stripped of tissue altogether.

After reading the various threads it doesn't look good for me, all the monti's are well established and attached to liverock in more than one place. I cant dip the corals as suggested in the above threads. My only realistic course of action is to break up all the remaining montis and move them to my frag tank where I can easily 'treat' them. I'm hoping that by removing these I will starve the nudi's of food leading to complete die off.

I've no idea how these got into my tank, the only guess is hitchhiking in on other sps.

Bit of a **** to say the least really, was pretty proud of the montis as they were given to me as small frags a year ago as the 1st corals in the tank.

Oh well, at least I have something to do when I get home tonight

I have been fighting them for over a year.

With the Digitata colonies I have kept them away by placing acro crabs in the colony. Once they make a home that seems to keep them away.

They will definitely seek out your caps first. I know the most sure way of getting them is to a) get rid of all your Montis -- Which nobody really wants to face doing, b) a daily regiment of removing all pieces and cleaning them -- A toothbrush works well -- Do they have those in the UK -- Sorry just kidding and I know its a serious situation.

Good luck, you are going to need alot of patience to be successful with this battle.

No offence taken.. I have to grin and bear it I like the idea of the acro crabs for the digi's. I'll do my best to hunt some down at work and add them to see if they can help me out.

I broke up all the monti's tonight as this is the only was to remove them from the tank. I took a load of pics and added them to my thread on ultimatereef.com
