Fine Tuning ASM G-4

I have an ASM G-4 on my 90g and I was wondering how I fine tune this thing? This is my first large skimmer as all of my previous ones were HOBs on nano type tanks. Can someone explain how I can get darker skimmate out of this thing? The skimmate I have now is just greenish/brownish tinted water. Also is there specific height it should be in the water or does that matter? Thanks in advance for any help.

Honestly, the easiest way would be to do the gate valve mod. It makes a world of difference when trying to dial in your skimmer. I don't even know why they sell the skimmers without the valve mod built in.

If you take a look at the ASMskimmer.com website they have the pieces of the mod listed out. I believe it is just 1.25" PVC and valve and it can be configured in the variation that they have on the website. You can get everything pre-cut from them, but I found everything to be a little cheaper a the local hardware stores. Nothing even has to be glued together.
