Hey all,

I just sifted through this thread...amazing pics! A couple of questions.

I tried one monticap SPS in my tank and it didn't make it (I now know why), but I'm leery to try another one.

Would you say "chalice" corals are easier to keep than SPS montipora caps? Assuming that 175W MH 10K is enough light to keep them? I'll be reading up on them now, but would low to moderate flow and low to moderate light be best for them? Or should I be thinking near the top of my tank with high light and high flow?

Thanks,

Brian

EDIT: Do "chalice" corals have large sweepers?

These corals tend to be a lot easier to keep than the majority of sps', they are simply much more forgiving and appreciate conditions that aren't quite as pristine as much sps' would prefer. Most varieties can be kept under VHO or PC lighting without any problems, and although some like the intensity of halides others do not at all.

I start mine off under moderate halides (250's, mid tank) and moderate flow move them according to observations. Some of them like it hot and heavy while others prefer it dim and slow.

Yes, they do have large and powerful sweepers

I just took this echino down from the rock in my tank to shoot some pics. Got this nice looking striped green-eyed echino last October and it's looking good:

Yup! Your striped melon is looking good...does it put out long sweepers at night? The brick red is the one that I posted here:
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...&pagenumber=29

Actually, I got two different reds, the brick red one that I posted earlier (a closeup shows red with blue spots) and another one that is reddish orange with green highlights. Did you pick up a frag of the four-color? Mine is growing big and looking good!

Awesome color Nizmo!
DEQbob...that striped-grn eyed one has really cool contrast. Is it big enough to frag for trade/sale? If not can you give me a lead on who you got it from and any contact info you might have? Thx!
