I don't know what to do! This is the over flow of my RSM, my nem is trying to go through it! or maybe it got sucked in.

well then turn off your filtration system and see if it can work itself out(run a powerhead or something for circulation in the mean time).. it looks pretty bleached already though

Welcome to anemones. When unhappy, they go with the flow.

Run carbon when you can get your system going again.

Best if you could get a pump that does not intake water from any sort of anemone-available grid...a downflow box, for instance, though there you have to shield the inflow teeth: you might put small squares of filter floss over the intake, but you will have to change them weekly to prevent nitrate buildup, which will make the nem walk again.

Sorry about your anemone, like Sk8r was saying though, make sure you run carbon. Those guys are pretty toxic when they expire.

For future reference, anemones should NEVER be white. They are photosynthetic and chlorophyll is usually brownish in anemones. Avoid white ones if you plan to replace that guy.

good luck!

Hard to say w/o being able to look at it in person, but I would say probably.

I wouldn't wait too long in making that choice though, it will break down quickly if it is dead.

I don't think an eggcrate would have prevented the nem from going through the holes... overflow holes are usually smaller and tighter than eggcrate. Unless you get something similar with tiny tiny holes from a craft store....

...My nem hasn't moved since I put him where I wanted him..Hope to god it doesn't get stuck in the overflow.

One thing about turning off your return pump is that the water will drain down below the nem.....and will most likely die due to exposure. dilema dilema.

I say fill up the entire tank so that the water level doesn't change when you turn off your return. Then turn it off, run a powerhead in the tank and hope that it backs out.

2nd the carbon thing. Hope it doesn't die. I heard they stink worse than cocktail shrimp after cycles.

There is nothing that smells worse.

Count it gone, or you may lose your entire tank. I would advise revising your entire pump structure before you get another nem. They just find ways to get in.

One other solution: build a structure of puttied-together live rock that totally screens your intake, yet provides ample room for intake action.

I don't think he'll lose his entire tank. BTA's arent' too toxic to begin with. The only think he'd have is...an ammonia spike. And smell. That's what I'd think.

There's a few posts on here where nems have been blended to pieces and spit out all over the tank by powerheads, and the entire tank survived. He ran carbon ofcourse.

I wanna see pics if this guy ever backs out!

The RBTA I have has gone through my overflow three times (through the mesh screen I have on there, by the way), and it's still kicking. It always got stuck around the sponge that covers the drain (it's a CPR hang-on-back), so I was able to catch it there and put it back in the tank all three times.

Don't give up yet. Just keep an eye on it; it may not be dead. If it still has a grip, it's good bet that it's alive. If it gets to a part of the overflow where you think you might be able to "persuade" it to release its grip, turn off all the pumps and have a bowl of tank water standing by. Use a flat plastic object like a spatula or small plastic putty knife to ease the critter off the surface it's on. Have a net standing by as well so that when it does release you can grab it and move it quickly to the bowl of salt water. Once you get it there you can examine it, but it's not going to look good at all. If it's still responsive, you can either try putting it back in the tank or you can set up a QT to house if you're not sure.

Don't feel bad, I had a beauty of an LTA in my tank. One day I decided to clean out one of my Tunze 6100's. I wake up to the pump alarming and I already knew what it was before I even got down stairs.

Sure enough, the Nem was wraped up so bad in the pump I had to cut it out. I won't try one again. I felt horrible cutting it like that.

The RSM has a wide gap above the teeth of the overflow.

I'm assuming it went over the teeth, and not through it?

Congrats on getting it out healthy!

now I know you said it came in that way but as others have mentioned, that is not a healthy color. If I were you I would consider getting more lighting overtop of it to ensure once it builds back its (insert name of things inside of it that allow it to use light energy here) it will be able to put them to use. You should probably start direct-feeding it too in order to promote regrowth of those (things I said earlier but dont remember the name of)

Lucky you!! Keep an eye on it over the next few days. Go ahead and take preventative measures on this happening again.

I had an RBTA disappear into a tank. As in, I moved the tank from house to house. nem moved around. Then disappeared, then never reappeared. No smell, no tank fouling, no nothing. Just gone.....Heck, I thought maybe it jumped out!

I had my anemone get its tentacles stuck in my Seio. Just turned it off and he wiggle his arms free. Let them come untangled instead of pulling or cutting them out.
