GBR Pics
Hey guys (and girls) I figured I'd share some of the pics I took on my honeymoon in Australia.
WARNING I'm no photographer. There's 140 pics there. Some are good, some are not so good. Enjoy! Great Barrier Reef

AWSOME! I wanted to throw my passport in the Ocean and never return.... Away from the corals of course. We went to Cape Trib., Cairns, Kuranda, Melbourne, Philip Island, and Sydney. If you're going to do it, I'd use Oddesy H2O in Cape Trib. They were an awsome group of people. Cape Trib reefs are in better condition than the ones in Cairns because of the preservation mentality up there. Even the farmers were conscious of the reef impact.
...and no that wasn't the dive boat. That was at a mooring slip.

What kind of camera are you using? Were you happy with it?

I used a Sealife DC500. The only complaints I had were the battery having a short life and the lens would fog after about 30-45 minutes in the water. and I would have to use mask defogger. From what I've heard and read this camera is rated best in it's class.
Oh and thanks!

Great pics!
My advice is not use mask defogger on your lens! I would try using a "moisture muncher" in the camera case. The fog is from condensation from the excess moisture in the case...... |

I had considered that. But didn't have any on the boat. When I was on land I wasn't really thinking about it.
DOH!

How hard was it to hold back from breaking off a piece of acro and taking it back to the aquarium?
Nice pics btw...Did you see a lot of clowns and anemones?

I didn't see reefs covered in BTAs or anything like that, but I saw maybe two per dive. I only saw blue stripes and Marroons. I figured out that anemones don't really stand out. If you want to find them you have to look for the clowns.
...and yes. I wanted very badly to snag a frag, but didn't.

Just a tip on the photos: if you have Adobe Photoshop or anything similar, taking the ones that look pretty washed out and doing the "auto fix" thing on them can help them look a bit better.

I used MGI photosuite to get the blue/green out.
I've also got Adobe photodeluxe stored away somewhere. I think that has an auto fix feature.

Just as an example, it takes this:
to this: Probably a bit more along the lines of how you saw it, and of course, messing with hues and the contrast a bit will bring it even closer. Easy stuff, and helps make good pictures even better! |

Overall I think it looks better but you loose some stuff in the picture by doing it. Because of the increase in contrast, you loose some of the detail in the darker areas. For example under the left side of the reef.
I think it would be worth making the adjustment, but I'd definately save my originals. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to see if I can find that program.

skylsdale,
At your suggestion I did touch up and re-post the pics. It took a while to go through each and every one of them but I think it was worth it in the end. It's still not professional grade, but some of the shots that couldn't be made out before were drastically improved. I also recently added about 20 shots to the album. - Thanks for the suggestion.
